hiya i have agreed to buy a horse on installments i paid the first 600 pound in two payments and the horse has been moved to my yard then i have had some bad news and had to quit my job for a while so cant now afford the horse so i asked the owner to take him back and to keep the money i had already paid so the horse went yesterday and now they say it has a injury in its leg and i have to pay a further 1000 pound cause the horse is now worth only half of what it was what do i do???

i asked them for the vet information so i could ring the vet and ask about the injury and they wont tell me anything only name of vets so i phoned them and they told me that no one as been out to that yard to see the horse!!!!

I would talk to a lawyer, and get an inderpendant vet check done.
If the owners won't allow this, then, i would be inclined to think that they are trying it on.
have you spoken to them since you spoke to the vets?
Also, was the horse lame when it left you, if not, do you have anybody who can back your word that ther was nothing wrong with it when it left?

the horse was fine when it left i have spoke to them about the vet and they said they would get a vet report posted out to me to state what is wrong with it my son was there and he checked the horse before it last and it was fine

Did you have a written agreement about when the payments were due and what would happen in the event that the horse had to be returned?

It sounds like they are just trying it on.

I would not have thought that the vets would discuss visits to other peoples horses/yards with someone else..... I stand to be corrected but that does not sound right to me?

I would put a call into your local Citizens Advice Bureau. Do not agree or committ to making any payments until you have your legal position confirmed - if they contact you, say you are taking legal advice and therefore, cannot comment further. It does sound as if they are trying it on but it is definately worth a call into CAB so you can understand your position.

the vets were very clear that they had not been to that yard and was also concerned that i was being lied to they did not give out any information only that they had not been to that yard
