Need some advice please

Is it about a dealer? Dragon Driving? Draw reins? Feel like I'm on a game show - "aaaaand a cuddly toy!" ;P

Maybe give us a better hint OP and I'm sure someone will be along directly to help :)
 
I did come up with dealer, drugs, dope and donkey. Almost a game of word association (tounge in cheek I might add!!) :-o
 
Oh you can say the word dealer, even ask about dealers in a general area but naming and shaming is punishable by the Forum Admin Team.

think you can even ask for information about a particular dealer but I can't say for sure, maybe someone could clarify that before you post any names :)
 
Thank you Sandi_84 I wasn't sure and didn't want to make trouble!! It is just my friend is horse shopping and has found a horse for sale on a dealers page and asked me what I think. The dealer has offered 28 day money back guarantee and seemed to have all the right answers but I can't remember if I read about this one or not so wanted to ask you lovely ladies and gents if you would know whether it is alright. xx
 
Good dealers are good - they survive by word of mouth recommendations, and try to match horse with buyer if they can. A 28 day money back guarantee is more than fair IMO - some offer to swap for a different horse. Just ask questions - does it weave/windsuck/is it safe to shoe/in traffic/to clip/load etc etc, any you can think of. If you don't ask they aren't obliged to volunteer the information but with that guarantee you are fairly safe. Just don't ask to be scammed - where I worked many years ago some people came on the yard with a list of what they wanted - including it had to be the top end of the price range. Boss fetched in a nice but ordinary cob, clipped and trimmed it and sold it to them for big money!
 
I would not take the 28 day money back guarantee with any seriousness, when push comes to shove they usually offer to find you another, which is equally rubbish!

Buying from a dealer actually gives you more rights anyway, as the horse has to be fit for purpose, but proving that it was not when you bought it is a hard one.

I agree with finding out about a reputation, a dealer with a good reputation is the best of all, maybe if you publish their name, and ask for people to PM you if the news is not good, then no one can be offended?

Definitely check out their reputation, google it for reviews or previous threads too. I agree with REd-1 that you have more comeback from a dealer than a private sale which is good.

Suggest to your friend that she goes into it with her eyes open if she decides to go for a look, get a vetting and blood taken and take someone who can be objective when viewing potential horses so they can steady her if she gets a bit heart before head :)

Oh and ETA: If it were me I'd be looking for some sort of written agreement to the 28 day guarantee but I don't know if that is usual in these situations, I just like clear written agreements as have been stung before ;)
 
If you buy for a dealer there are of course honest and dishonest dealers and the dishonest ones are a total nightmare as if things go wrong they just run rings around everyone.
Money back guarantees are worthless if they are not honoured which in many cases that is exactly what happens.
You really need to determine if the dealer is o.k and the best way to do it is to ask on here but ask people to Private Message you.
You will want to hear from at least 20 people al of which they say they have been happy.

i spent a long time looking for the right one. i saw a few at dealers yards and of the 3 i saw i would of only brought from 1 of them. I have previously been misold a horse from a dealer but when problems became apparant they did accept the horse back and i got most of my money back, id join local horsey sales sites and get a knowledgeable person to advise you, good luck .
 
Get it vetted by a vet working for you not their vet. And make sure you ask if it's out of the area for good recommendations for horse vets and see their qualifications. Don't go with what a dealer says about vetting.
