Hi All!

I wondered if anyone had any good advise, My horse is quite large (Only 15.3 but an old style Irish boy)

He's not the easiest horse to ride and i am aware i'm not the most balanced rider in canter but he seems to take advantage of this and i can't get him to canter round the corners of the school. He will go in a straight line and that is all. You have to ride with him with alot of leg but in doing this my legs seem to 'scrunch up' at canter.

I am aware this is all probably my fault (actually i know it is!) but nothing i do seems to fix the problem i have with my legs.

SO, Does anyone have any tips/ideas for me?
Anything is oh so appreciated!

You don't mention how old the horse is. Young horses often find cantering in the school difficult due to balance. Can your horse do it with someone else riding? If it is the horse then I would stop trying for now and work on cantering out hacking in straight lines. If he is sensible enough then working in a field where you can do larger corners will help.
Do you have regular lessons? Could you have a lesson on a more experienced horse? Lunge lessons might be good so you can focus on your own position.

I agree with the lunge lessons, you can concentrate on you and your position more then. Also sounds like he doesn't know how to move away from your leg or go forward off it quickly?? Could be worth getting him some schooling lessons too :D
