Hey all

I need some advice on how to fatten my TB up quickly, he is currently on a scoop of Calm and condition and alpha a oil and veg oil. I have had to introduce feed back to his diet slowly with the hope of it not effecting his head. Now we are 2 weeks in I want to start upping his feed to get some good weight gain but still with out it effecting his little brain.
Has anyone got some good ideas?

Thanks in advance

TB's do really well on summer grazing so best thing to do to is give them grass pellets. Won't heat them up like cereal feeds could do

I feed my tb the same but more and it worked for him. Is the Calm and Condition a mix or cube? I feed 2 scoops Calm n Condition cubes with 2 scoops Alfa A Oil and 3 tablespoons of Soya Oil split in to two meals per day.

The best thing to do is go cereal free but also to give your horse at least 2/3 small meals a day.

Anything conditioning has energy as that is what the horses use to put the weight on, but if you stick to slow release sources of energy you should be ok.

Micronised Linseed is working great for my Poor doing TB ab lib haylage is also the other thing.

Three small meals of Calm & condition, Alpha A & micronised Linseed & Ab lib haylage you should see results.

Charnwood milling do delivery over the internet. A 25Kg bag so should last you a while, look at his work routine check that he is not being worked too hard that he is using up all that your putting into him as energy & not putting it into weighth?

He was only on grass from his previous owners. I don't have any photos here as I am at work. He had an injury but I would have still given him some feed over the summer with the grazing the way it was but he wasn't. Now I am in need on putting on some more weight on to him before it gets too cold. There are some pics on my previous posts but not sure how good they will be to see how thin he is. (he is starting to shine now tho after 2 weeks of feed and haylage) :D

As for work, he is coming back into light work whilst I sort his weight out etc and start getting his fittness levels up a touch.

Another option would be to try top spec cool conditioning cubes. I know of many TB's on this as its got the conditioning aspect without the starch and sugar side. High fibre and low starch and sugar so unlikely to blow their sensitive brains!
I was going to winter my TB on Baileys No4 again but am going to try these instead to start with alongside Alfa A Oil and NAF Pink Powder.

Found the pics - to be honest he doesn't look really thin, just a tiny bit lean. If he has only been on the new diet and ad lib haylage for two weeks, and seems to be gaining on it, then I wouldn't be in a hurry to fatten him up any quicker.

If he has been out of work for a while, I take it you are only going to be doing slow and gentle stuff to start with, which won't take too much out of him. Once you get to the stage where he is doing more energetic stuff, then you may have to reassess the diet, but remember to always feed for the actual work done, not the work you plan to do in future!
