It began at 7am this morning going down to pitch in at the local equine hospital. I get there to find i've been drafted in as there are no other yard staff available, i dont work there i just know one of the vets so i get led into the yard and told to get on with it.
8 very very ill horses to do on my own, including having to search for everything as having no idea where things are kept, re shaping a mammoth muck heap on my own, and clearing up a mess that someone had left from yesterday.
Needless to say after 5 hours i was shattered, i get home to do my own 3 stables and clear up the usual mess, and then collapse and fall asleep on the sofa.
Im woken up to a frantic knock at the door telling me there are horses loose on the road would i help the catch them.
My heart stops when i see my mare charging down the road followed by my gelding!!
They go charging across a set off cross roads and out of sight...im on the verge of tears!
After a lovely neighbour helps me catch them and ive washed the blood off my mare's leg, i get back into the house when an owner calls me to tell me she has sold a horse from underneath me. My dream horse, in a few years the potential burghley horse, the once in a life time cant believe this horse is mine to compete horse, he's gone.

I honestly thought this was it, the chance to get somewhere at long last with a superstar horse, a horse i could never afford to have of my own.

What a shocking day, and its back to that hospital tomorrow!!:(

Good Lord what a revolting day! Did you have any idea the horse was potentially for sale? Whilst I'm sure we all agree that owners can/must protect their interests, it is a terrible blow to have your hopes dashed like that. It's so much more upsetting when you inevitably form a bond with the horse :(.
Take heart if you can, the owner of such a fabulous horse obviously thought you had the talent to bring it on or he/she would not have offered you the ride. Circumstances may have changed for them, but you are still that good!
I hope that your mare is none the worse for her bid for freedom and there is no real damage done. Good on you for holding things together at the equine hospital, those poor animals deserve your help. Hang on in there, good things will come again.

Thankyou to everyone for all the lovely messages!

Today is a better day all ready.

Was back at the hospital this morning to find a little mare who was horribly ill yesterday looking brighter and was even nibbling my hair at one point.

Came back home checked over yesterdays escapees and all are fine!! Thank god!!! More excitingly however, i have made the decision that it'll always be difficult to find 100%security with owners. There may be conflict of interests and so on. So im going to buy my own nice youngster and bring them up through the ranks.

It might not be the most sane thing to do with my savings, but the way i see it is what is the point of having that money in the bank and still being miserable. So sorry Barclays.....im looking for a new gee gee superstar!
:p

What an excellent post :D

So long as you manage to keep some savings for those rainy days, it will be an excellent route to go :D :D

Maybe see if you can get sponsorship for your own horses, rather than having an owner?

what an awful day, sending you vibes for a better day tomorrow(((()))))! So sad about the top horse, but mayb something else will come up now?!?!
