Just passing through...
I'm after your help folks, please
I bought Dizzy, then four year old just backed DWB, two years ago in December.
I bought her to BS with; my aim was to get as far as we could go, but would have liked to reach Newcomers with her. I know it takes time, etc. etc. etc., but that isn't what this post is about.
Due to health issues, bony irregularities on her pelvis, her schooling and training and competitive life have not gone to the original plan(!).
We have her insured for LOU, which the insurance company has 'accepted' covers her possibly not being able to BS. We have until the end of this December to claim or not.
We believe that Dizz is now fit enough and matured enough to try to BS. Her jumping schooling has been fairly steady since March/April, though we are now at the stage where she will need to start to jump bigger.
She is always keen to jump and seems to enjoy it.
She is a good horse, one that will give you her last ounce, but she's not one to put up with harsh or abrupt riding; she needs quiet and firm and guidance.
The issue now is who rides her to BS level (and by 'level' I'm not sure what I mean - had it been me doing it and no insurance issue, we'd have been starting right at the bottom and slowly working our way up, for both of us - it's a long, long time since I did any serious jumping). I came off six weeks ago and broke my back, so even if I were competant enough to take her, I can't.
My nearly sixteen year old daughter is capable of jumping serious heights, but she is not experienced in terms of BS courses.
My instructor used to BS and would do so if I asked her to. However, today instructor suggested a local show jumper who would be sympathetic to Dizzy's way of going.
So I'm wondering:
Maybe get D1 (daughter) to ride Dizz during the week and jump grids and schooling jumps; get instructor to do some jumping in the school and out at some unaffiliated classes; then, ask the showjumper to take Dizz for a week and get used to her, then take her to whatever BS classes he thinks suited.
Anyone have any suggestions as to the best way forward? I realise that we are slightly running out of time, i.e. three and a half months.
