Hello,

I just have a few questions about riding showing... I literally have no idea about it I was wondering if I can get some answers:

1. What do I wear?
2.What tack does my horse need?
3. How do they mark ID Sports horses?
4. What do I have to prepare before the day?
5. What do I actually do on the day??

Thank you!!

Well firstly there isn't such a thing as ID sport horses, do you mean an Irish Sports Horse?
What you wear depends on the class, usually most people wear tweed for ridden showing. The same goes for tack, normally a horse wears plain tack however this can differ depending on the class entered. You need to make sure that your tack and numnah is clean and that the numnah is fitted close to the saddle so that only the trim is visible. You need to make sure that both you and the horse are well turned out, usually horses are plaited up. You go to the show reception (usually a caravan!) and register for the class you want. You will then receive your number which you tie around your waist, you will also find out what arena your class is in. Make sure to keep an eye on the classes before it so that you have a good indication when your class will be going in! It is always advised to take note of how many people are in the class before yours so that you can get a good approximation of times! In the mean time make sure to ride a lot in the warm up arena so that both you and the horse are suitably warmed up and flexible. Then when its your class go in and compete, a ridden class usually consists of you all riding round together (walk, trot, canter) while the judge looks, then you all line up in the middle and take it in turns to do an individual show. Then you rejoin the line up until everyone has finished, then the judge will signal for you all to ride off where you all walk around until the judge calls you out, one by one according to placings. Once everyone has received their rosettes, placings and comments from the judge you walk off and do a lap of honor, then leave the arena!

I hope this helps!

Hello Lolly Dolly,
Thanks for your reply! Yes I am aware that Irish sports horses are called that more commonly (as I own one) I posted it as ID sports horse as that is what the class is (also it makes sense as ish are draft + thorobred anyway) your reply is very useful thank you!!! We're used to eventing malarkie, but this sounds a lot more scarey people openly judging your horse! Ah well we'll have a bash :P
