Ok, so we had a litter of springer pups born end of September.
We lost the smallest of the two runts and through a bit of two hourly round the clock feeding managed to save the other.
The other six pups grew at an alarming rate, but runty puppy (Harry) grew VERY slowly and we have always had reservations about his sight (being its not really great!), so Harry stays with us

So yesterday it was decided that Harry was finally (in our opinion) big enough to go and get his jabs done, and so had his 1st jab done yesterday morning.
Cue unhappy mummy and unhappy Harry.
Harry was seriously quiet yesterday and then the membrane started to cover one of his eyes, which also seems to now have a tiny bit of a squint.
Called vet who said unless he was being sick and had the squits, we shouldnt worry. Some puppies are very quiet after jabs, and yes he is VERY quiet.
He is however still gobbling everything in sight foodwise and drinking.
He slept with us last night (and will do until he is right again) and whilst no worse today, the eye thing is not improved enough for me not to worry!
So is it normal for a puppy to react in this way to an innoculation or is it likely to be something else entirely unrelated?

Third eyelid coming over can denote a drop in form - can you take him in, even to put your mind at rest?

Could he have had a scratch or a knock on his eye?

Are third eyelid problems common in spaniels?

Hello there! Was this the first time your bitch was bred & do you know the stud's prior litter history? Eight pups for springers is not uncommon, but two "runts" would ring alarm bells for me (we have pointers & GSD's). Did you know why the first runt died?

Eye membrane over just one eye would take me to a vets with a pup, two eyes a bit faster....- even if just to put my mind at rest, especially if you feel he's got a little squint.

Hope he's grand!

It can as CC suggests be a drop in form or feeling unwell can present the 3rd eye lid and does not neccessarly have anything to do with the eye it's self, (we had a parvo dog in yesterday) 8 years old

both her eye lids where over as she was unwell in herself and her immune system was under stress, but they where fine this afternoon and back to normal as she had perked up, and the vax which would have taxed his immune system some could have something to do with it, hence why your et may not be to worried at present, if he is eating and drinking that is a very good sign, and they can become quiet and less active for a few days after a vax or go off food which your pup obs has not, I would however give the vet a call tomorrow and say u are a little concerned they may ask u to pop him in for a check and check him temp and have a look at the eye.

yup ditto Cayla and CC here.

Some puppies just take the approach of screw this malarky! and go really quiet, subdued and relatively naff fealing (just like human babies after their jabs)

The 3rd eyelid come across when unwell, dehydrated and for many reasons.
If he is still eating and drinking like a normally happy puppy (even if he doesnt look it) then that is a good sign!
So long as there is no vomit or diarrhoea Id be realtively happy but Id agree that going to the vet might just put your mind at ease for the vet to go ok no he needs XYZ or go Nope he is fine just hating me for jabbing him!

Hope he perks up soon!

He is fine!
Had him given the once over, but is once again a bouncing little bundle of mischief!
Squint seems to have almost gone as has 3rd eyelid (maybe connected?).
Seems he was just feeling pretty rubbish after his "morning out"
Not looking forward to jab two though
