Need to buy a saddle but struggling with seat sizes.

My new horse is only 15.2hh, whereas my previous horse was 16.1hh. I want to make sure I get the right seat size for myself (I'm only 5 foot 3 if that helps), but more importantly want to make sure the seat size is ok for the length of the horse as she is quite compact, I've been told shes currently using a medium to wide gullet, not sure if that helps. Any advice appreciated as I have never bought a saddle before and I want to make sure its right for both of us.
 
You need to arrange for a good saddle fitter to come to you. They will have the relevant knowledge and experience to assist you, and should have a variety of saddles to try. If you could give a general idea of your location, someone might be able to make a recommendation.

What suits one person will not suit another or may not suit the horse, the best advice is to find a saddler who will bring out a selection for you to try, don't use one that can only supply one brand, ideally get someone who will have used as well as new ones so you can get a feel for what you like as well as find something that fits the horse as it really is individual preference especially if you want to jump as well as do flatwork in it.
Make sure you get a proper chance to ride and jump in one before making a purchase.

I will add that the seat size relates to your length of leg as well as the length of the horses back, most "normal" horses can carry a 17in and most "normal" riders will be more than happy in that size so use that as a starting point unless she is exceptionally short backed.
 
It depends a little on your leg length but at 5'3" you could probably get away with a 16.5" or a 17" which would probably also suit your compact new horse.
Best thing is to give your details to a saddler and ask them to bring along a selection to try as length and width isn't all that you need to consider.
 
My honest advice would be to find a competent saddler and ask them to come and do a fitting. They will find one with the right gullet and also length for you, and can discuss the type of saddle and budget that suits you. You don't have to buy from them and can shop around with your specification. Every horse is different - my 17.1hh horse can't take a very long saddle despite her size. Just make sure that you find a decent saddler. Ask around friends locally and look up their reputation. Good ones are busy. They will also maintain your saddle by periodically adjusting the flocking.

I am located in County Durham if anyone has any recommendations of saddle fitters in the area that would be brilliant!
