Hi guys
Can you recommend a type of dog food for weight gain? I need to get some weight on my greyhound.
Is mix on it's own ok, or should I use canned food too?
She is on a copy make of James wellbeloved senior light atm.
Thanks in advance
hb

How long have you had your Greyhound for ?
Is she an ex racer who has just come out of racing ?
Is she wormed up to date ?
A little more info would be appreciated.

I have 4 Greyhounds & this is what i feed.

Breakfast - Cornflakes & warm milk

Lunch - minced chicken, boiled veg, well cooked pasta & the biscuits i feed is called Gain 20

Dinner - the same as above.

All my dogs thrive on the above.

I won't & don't feed tinned meat.

Hope this is of some use to you.
XxX

Just switch off senior light to normal senior, should do the trick.
ets...apparently they dont do a normal senior...just switch to adult then.

My girls - two terriers and two lurchers (Whip x Bed) have tinned meat am and pm and splash of cod liver oil with bowls of complete mix available to them on ab-lib basis. Works for them, the latest lurcher who was a rescue gained weight so ribs and back bone not showing and is now in excellent condition. She did at first think she needed to trough all of the mix before realising it was there for her to come and go at as she pleased!!

I have just been trying to get some weight on one of mine, she was on a diet and lost too much! lol

I have been giving her 1lb of tripe once a day. Weight has gone on beautifully.

Hi guys

Thanks for all the advice :)

She is wormed up to date and I have had her for around 6 years.

Will swap her dry mix and add some canned food.

All mine do well on a good quality dry complete and they get a few days of BARF a month for a treat and for their teeth, but I have switched my shaggy lurcher to BARF alone, because he does not enjoy his food like the rest and he loves the raw food so he is now getting a different type of meat every day, this week he has had, salmon, eggs, sardines (1 meal)
chicken and turkey mince (one meal) huge turkey drum stick (one meal) and liver/chicekn tripe) (one meal) all with vegie oil poured over, all raw or slightly warmed, and he is clearing his bowl, I will give him a few weeks of this before weighting him and seing the difference, but he is atleast eating the lot now.

I used to feed my three greyhounds on Skinners Duck and Rice all in one and they looked fantastic on it - very easy to add or drop weight using it, although apparently I am unusual as I feed mine by eye and will vary their intake daily according to how they are looking :)

I have now swapped to feeding them raw, no significant change in condition yet but it has only been a week and a bit!

I feed Kildrummie. It's low protein so doesn't send them nuts. It's a lovely feed with your normal crunchy, meaty nuggets but also has charcoal for farts, the cereal is crushed peas and corn and there is also dried chicken in it. Mine really think they are getting something special! And it's only £12 for a 20kg bag!!!!
