The vets never queried that decision, it was mine to make as the owner of the horse.

A vet will not put down an horse that it considers has a reasonable quality of life, unless they are in agreement with the owner that it doesn't.

[/ QUOTE ]

I repeat - I made the decision to have the horse PTS, whilst one of the senior partners in my veterinary practice stated his wish to work the horse further to try and get it sound again.

I was not prepared to put the horse through further pain to try and achieve an uncertain outcome at best.

Seems pretty clear to me that in those circumstances the vet did not agree with my view on having the horse PTS? However it was duly PTS on my instructions.

Interesting. I've honestly never heard of a vet agreeing to put an animal down, whom they felt should either receive more treatment or still had a reasonble quality of life. And have certainly come across situations where it's been requested and vehmently refused. Hence the use of the hunt kennels.

You certainly learn something every day on this forum.

Vets will pts at owner's request if they're paid for it. Only thing the owner couldn't do is claim humane destruction on insurance.

[/ QUOTE ]

They most certainly will not Flame, unless they deam the horse to need euthenising.

Well I'm sure I've got 2 dead horses, both done by vets, both of which could still have been LOU field ornaments. Maybe I imagined it.

Got me at a bad time, and, for once, I am going to submit my opinion instead of holding my tongue.

What a sly little remark.

Its a shame that some people are like they are ... What, practical? Caring? Considerate? Responsible?

Anyway, im off, its been good on here but id rather talk to horsey people that care You obviously haven't read many threads then , instead of wanting to 'get rid' when they are no longer useful! Bye. I think it is the pink and fluffy forum you want.

I am pleased to hear that the Owner has found a solution that she is happy with.
