Need to put my mind at rest

My yearling was kicked 2 weeks ago on sunday. My friend dealt with it, cleaned it and put some gel on it and she was fine, no lameness, slight swelling for about a day or two, but nothing to cause concern.
Anyway, went down to see her this evening and her hock has blown. She wont let me touch it, and is alittle lame on it.
Rang vet and he was hopeless, (not my usual vet), ended up, after a stupid conversation, just giving her 2 bute and see how she is in the morning.
What i would have liked to have known is: Could this be an infection from the cut although it was two weeks ago, and the cut has been dry all the time,
or
Is it possible she could have just pulled something in the field? She has been whizzing around the field alot recently and decided to try and fight with the electric fencing scaring herself, and also slipping in the stable.

I would say it could be an infection. The same thing happened to my friends 2 yo. He was on full livery with someone who was supposed to be looking after the horses. She didnt realise hed hurt himself till a day or so later. She cleaned it up and it looked as though it was healing. She didnt tell my friend about the accident. My friend went down a few weeks later to see her boy and checked him over and found the accident. She called the vet out as his hock was very swollen and he was lame - he had got an infection which was serious.
Subsequently this person doesnt have my friends horses - she moved all 4 of them straight away after this.
 
You really should have a vet out. Too many people show their horses injuries etc to other people so they can look and umm and ahh over it and forget that these people are not vets, they have no qualifications and no disrespect but probably not a lot of experience in dealing with these things a lot of them are yard busy bodies who just want to be the hero.
 
I would get the vet out if you are concerned. It is unlikely to be a joint/sheath infection this long after the original injury, but it's worth checking it out properly.
