As you know, I am moving yards, and previously have had the luxury of having YM to lend/source items for me, but now am standing on my own two feet, so need to put my own kit together.

So far I already have:

Hibiscrub
Aloe Vera Gel - I use this for all cuts, scrapes, bites etc
Hoof to Heel Cream
Vaseline
Purple spray

What other essential items am I missing?

sissors..
vet wrap
gamgee
cotton wool
poltice (animalintex if it was me)
Intrasit gel
sudacrem
iodine
salt

Lou x...

PS i have a lot more.. but my otehr stuff is either hoof specific.. from training as farrier or is for Tendon injuries...

intrasit gel is amazinf for healing skin.. i originally got this off the vet for a bad lazeration.. however, a friend of mine who's mum passed away from cancer, gave me horse mums stoke so now have an infinite supply.

sudocrem is used to form a barrier from flys.. to heal superficial grazes and i find it handy to prefect dressigns sticking..

I also find the iodine is the most useful item in my box.. it is brill!

from chemist (as cheaper)
Digital thermometer - take a selction of readings when your horse is healthy, get an average and then you'll know if he/she's ever running a temperature.
Surgical Spirit
Hydrogen Peroxide

Vetwrap or simliar, animalintex and gamgee essential
Keep a couple of nappies and some gaffer tape - perfick for poulticing and much cheaper!
The list could go on and on but think the earlier answer covered most of it - good luck in your new yard!

Echo all this. Plus gloves and an 'always clean' bowl so you don't have to go in search of something in an emergency.
Its good to have a thermometre and a stethoscope, but they are not essential.
I also have human stuff in mine, like plasters, paracetamol (for me only) etc...

Sudocrem
Intrsite gel
vet wrap
thermometre
animalintex
scissors
tweezers
clean towel
gauze
skintact
cotton wool
gamge
clean stable bandages
human plasters!!
eye solution

ummmm....think thats about it!

I always keep at least two rolls of vet wrap, as well as a couple of normal bandages in mine.

Animalintex is always useful.

I have kit to take a shoe off in an emergency.

A tube of Sedalin and a twitch.

Lots and lots of clean plastic gloves

Cotton wool.

Protocon, Sudacreme, Vaseline, aloe vera, witch hazel.

My vet box gets rehoused every few years into a bigger and bigger box...!

In addition to all that listed above I keep some 'Kool Paks' in the kit. You break a container in the pack, give it a shake & get an instant ice cold compress.

mine's been growing steadily for years:
vetrap
animalintex
gamgee
softban
knitfix
elastoplast
duct tape
iodine
hibiscrub
surgical spirit
gauze swabs
cotton wool
salt
clean container
wound hydrogels
melolin/similar sterile dressings
stable bandages and fybagee
green oils
witch hazel and arnica
flamazine
thermometer
scissors
artery forceps
sedalin
various needles and syringes
bag of sterile saline
IV sedative
suture material
latex gloves
bute
stuff to take a shoe off
vaseline

think that's it! smaller version in my car for going to shows.

Cripes!

Thanks everyone!!!

Looks like I'll be investing in a fair bit of kit then.

I think I am going to be on a very steep learning curve going DIY!!

Bring it on!

I esp like the tip about the clean bowl as that is something I have needed but could never find!

Alos the nappies is brill idea.

Do you use Iodine instead of Hibiscrub ? If so why? What's the difference?

What is green oils used for? I have seen it before but never bought it.

On friday I am taking one horse out of three to live away from home with me which means leaving two behind. I currently have one first aid box but will now need to, one to leave at home, the other to take with me. I know everyone likes to be prepared as possible but in reality you just need the basics because if it's anything mre hopefully you should be calling the vet anyway!

So in my new box to leave at home I have:

Cotton wool
Animalintex
vetwrap
Purple spray
Cold pack
Scissors
Dressing
Bute
Hibiscrub

i like iodine for open wounds as hibi delays healing, but i use hibi for any bits of sore skin, cracked heals etc.

green oils is a fly repellent as well so i use it for covering wounds to help heal and repel flies.

for clean containers i always keep ice cream tubs.
you can store them inside one another and can always have a few to hand.

antihistamine cream is something i always keep (though the kids use it more than anyone else!)
