Our yard owner asked a now former livery to leave as her horses kept getting out through post and rail, electric fencing, jumping 6 bar gates etc and caused quite a few hiccups and a nasty fall for yours truly onto a wooden fence post when they escaped and broke into the school when I was riding. She left on Friday and took my yard tools and yard owners electric fence posts with her. I text her asking if she could please return my tools. No reply text her next day asking again and got a horrible few texts today saying I was a pathetic sad crazy little girl she won't return them and I can go to her new yard owner who will also tell me to get lost and the police wont care. I'm coming up 23 and she's a few months older than me. I was the one who went out for 5 hours trying to find her horses when they got on the toll rides as she didn't answer her phone. I didn't even get a thank you. I just need to rant as I helped out loads with her horses when they escaped and she wouldn't answer her phone. I'm just so angry someone could do that and not appear to have any morals or any feeling that maybe they should return whats not theirs when they didn't even bother to fix fencing and it was muggins here and the yard owner that did. right rant over. Feel better now :)

I would go, not alone, to her new yard, and ask her politely to return your belongings. If she refuses, I would inform her new yard manager that you will be reporting the theft of your belongings to the police. This will ensure that her new YM a) knows she's a thief , and b) the police may turn up at her yard, causing embarassment and inconvenience. This will at best result in the return of your property, and at worst ensure that she won't be the most welcome new livery ever. Sounds like a nasty cow, but if you have texts from her stating her refusal to give your things back, you have proof that she has them.

A slightly similar thing happened to me. A livery left a yard and took some of my jumps. I stopped her on the drive and got a mouthful of abuse before she drove of with them. I called her when I got home, again she was abusive, so I told her I'd call the police ( had PayPal receipt for jumps) and she laughed, wished me luck etc. I called her new yard (a riding school) to ask that my jumps weren't used and explained the situ. The YO told me that they'd had enough of her already av wished they'd never let her move ( this was her first day there!) but that I wasnt to worry as they'd sort it without needing to involve the police. Right enough the livery called not even 20 mins later to curtly say that she'd return jumps/ poles the next day which she duely done.

So personally I'd call her, new yard and then police. She sounds like a bully so I'd call her bluff. You have nothing to lose and your tools to get back! Good luck

Well she's been up today and was caught leaving the yard (as in driving off) but no one was there when she was - more stuff has gone, and she obviously copied keys to tackroom. YO has put padlock with an odd code on and changing locks and YO has spoken to her new yard proprieter as more stuff of mine went today and LOADS of her stuff has disappeared. Absolutely FUMING

Sounds like your YO needs to file a police report and also YO should contact her new yard - yard owners will often listen to each other a bit more and take onboard what is going on.

Go to the new yard with another person as a witness and ask for your stuff back, if she says no then tell her that you will be contacting the police re the theft of said items, remind her that you have kept the texts that will be given to add to the evidence. I do hope you manage to sort this out, good luck.

Shame we can't have a name & shame thieving liveries sticky. As long as you had basic rules, like at least a couple of accusations with a min no of posts & min membership time to stop troublemakers & false accusations, I think it would be fab.
