This is another long one (as all mine seem to be) but there are some comedy token pictures at the end to lighten the mood.

I found out this weekend that Elvis hasn't been eating all his hay- cue alarm bells- he ALWAYS eats his hay and last time he went off his hay his liver was very poorly- I've tried to rationalise- I will get the vet out on Monday to do bloods- for now he's still eating and is bright, plus there is lots of good grass that he is stuffing his belly with- so maybe he is just full.

So I put my worries to the back of my mind and got on with his riding rehab as per the physio's advice. He was being lazy and distracted so I decided to pop him into trot to get his attention- his first trot since being off and seeing the physio- it was just a couple of strides but it was completely off. It felt like his hinds weren't attached to his body, like they were broken and he was just dragging them behind him. It was so bad my sister, who was watching, gasped and shouted stop.

I'm completely crushed, the physio said that if the problem wasn't in his back that the physio treatment would highlight the problem and make it worse. This means the problem is in his hinds or pelvis, so not only will he being having bloods on Monday for his liver but all the X-rays/scans etc to try and find out what's going on.

Elvis brings me so much happiness and I just want him well and to know what is wrong. And to top it off we just found out my step brother who turns 26 tomorrow has got liposarcoma-a very rare cancer. My dad is in pieces, and there is nothing we can do.

Now as promised to try and lighten this post pictures of Elvis the comedian- I hope they make you smile as much as they make me.

This one because he looks lovely:

I would try not worry too much about the hay thing. If he's eating grass he's probably just not interested in the hay. Def think you need the movement thing looking into though. Sorry to hear about your step brother :(

Oh Elvis - massive hugs and vibes. So worrying for you about your step brother, and also Elvis. He looks gorgeous. Very best wishes for both of them xxxxx

& also if you do want a bit of light relief you can giggle at the fact that I did a double-take at the first pic which looked a bit as if you werent wearing anything under your air jacket!!

I'm so glad that wasn't just me!!

Have a few (((((hug's))))) - The vet on Monday sounds like a good course of action re: the lameness. I wouldn't worry about the not eating hay though, if he's eating grass etc. I would stay clear from google too - whatever the symptoms, you are only ever 3 clicks from death according to the tinternet ... Which is rarely the case.

I'm so sorry to hear about your step- brother, no one deserves that.

Take care & keep your chin up chuck. X

Firstly the grass is good at the moment, so no need to panic over that until you get a the vet's advice / liver enzymes tested / whatever you're planning.

Secondly I didn't quite follow the physio issue - possibly missed the backstory. What did the vet say? Is he sound without a rider? If so, perhaps he's lacking muscle and needs to build himself up before working more under saddle? Take it one step at a time, and get your vet to check him when he's out on Monday and you'll get to the bottom of things.

Vet looked at his movement and did flexion tests which he passed then felt his back- found tension and suggested physio first to rule out his back. Physio also found the tension but noticed his pelvis was odd on one side and then look at his movement and saw he wasn't right behind so also mentioned it could be bilateral lameness, but wanted to see if sorting his back would improve his movement but said if things got worse it meant it wasn't the back to blame...

is too....

Sorry to hear that things are not good, best wishes for you, your family and Elvis!

It sounds like you now need to work him up with the vet step by step.

He's a lovely looking chap :). Try not to worry too much, though sometimes I think they like us too!

Thank you everyone- have to remember to remain positive.

Have to say I laughed about the naked rider comments- looking at the first pic it certainly looks that way!

Hopefully this next week will answer a few questions- Bloods will tell me about the liver, scans etc hopefully will provide a cause for his odd movement.

And we will hopefully found out how far along the cancer is plus get dates for radiotherapy, surgery and chemo, I think a plan with dates will help everyone- it will feel like something is happening.
