Hi

Wondering if anyone could help me horse shop

i didn't expect to have to be horse shopping so all the more stressful!

Unfortunately have mini budget which is pretty impossible to find anything. I have trawled every horse site I know and every one I have rang about has been a no go, so at a dead end!

So list of requirements (extensive ;))

- 5-13 years
- 15.2-16.3
- Preferably gelding but don't mind a mare if right horse
- Safe to hack alone, we have busy road with pretty much all farm traffic to cross to get to quieter parts
- Dont mind breed but prefer ISH type - something with a bit of bone
- To do RC type activities and BE80/BE90 would love Be100 but I know budget wouldnt get anything at all!
- Something thats bold xc and sj is fine - doesnt have to have done a BE
- Must be no more than 2hr 30 from Carlisle
- Generally looking for a safe horse to have fun and low level event on
- Nothing strong as i'm quite lightweight!
- Dont mind a 5 year old that needs bringing on or something older

Gosh that list is long
Here is the hard part -
£3500 max
I know its pretty impossible but I'm sure there is something out there waiting!

Sad part is I have a horse with all those requirements and double the talent but sadly injuries prevent that :(

Thankyou!

I found something with a VERY strong BE record that ticks all your boxes (and more!) for £1K under your budget, it took me a couple of months to find him. The But with him was a vice but for me I could cope with that, I never imagined that I could afford a horse like him so keep searching!

This one sounds worth a ring (and a bit of digging!)

Don't know if they would come down in price a bit:

Ok re-write your list and have must haves in order of preference, draw a line under then put any 'would be nice if' under that. I think you have to be totally realistic about what your budget will stretch to, so is a green with potential better than a been there done it, not going any further or getting any younger suit your ambitions more?

Plenty of new ads on H&H today.

Does it have to be backed & competing already? A nice 3 or 4yr old project might be worth considering.

Okey dokey

So -
Must be between 15.2hh - 16.3hh
Must be between 5 -13
Must have done some competing and proven to be sensible ie some SJ/dressage unaff and XC schooling so I could take round Be80
Must be a safe hack alone
Must load in a trailer (have one that doesn't and nightmare!)
Must be able to be turned out with others (kept on yard)
ISH type would be nice
Gelding preferable

Just read that back and sounds no different- it's kind of difficult to say!

Wouldn't consider a 3 year old - must be competing. No dont mind something green that needs brought on, I have been doing that for the past year with my 5 year old but unfortunately injury now prevents this!

A nice RC/PC type would suit - I don't think a horse needs to be particularly talented to get round a BE80 so an RC type would be fine

This gives me hope :)

Unfortunately they are all too far away I'm not far from Scottish border

Crossed my mind that it is the going to university time of year so if there are any advertised for that reason which have not sold but which are above your asking price, they may be prepared to drop the price if they really don't want to or cannot keep.

You'll find something for that budget, more easily than you think. Smokes was miles under, including paying for transport for him to come to us...

(windsucks, but looks rather nice!)

Mares, but seem almost too perfect?!

I really like top one - think will give a call :)

What about Reggie?
Bought on by an amateur but been produced properly, well schooled, good technique over a fence yet a blank canvas for you to just go out and have fun on?

Have phoned Reggie - had decided on something older but thinking I will go try now - keep coming back to him

Yeah seen quite a few that say off to uni - will keep looking

Thanks everyone!

I have exactly what you are after beautiful 16.1hh mare 7 yrs, good honest jump - riding club alrounder ready for BE90 and would accept £3500 to the right home, but I'm in North Gloucestershire so i assume too far? PM me if not and i can send you photos/videos etc

I think you're going to have to travel a bit. You'll be missing out on alot of possibilities by not going more than 2 1/2 hours.
Obviously, set a few viewings up in a day, or any friends on the way to places you can stay with.

Perhaps look in Ireland as well.

Good luck.

I dont think what your looking for is impossible!

I have the exact horse you described just without much competition experince (he will be sj and xc in competition from next week) and he will be up for sale for €1500 in a couple of weeks.
Of course I am in Ireland.
If you open up your area you will have loads more horses to choose from.

Thanks - yes as we feared going to have to travel further a field. There is literally nothing near me!

Graham Sugden (http://www.gsequine.co.uk/hotseforsale.html) has some lovely horses in from Ireland. Dont know if the website is up to date but ring him and have a chat, they go over to Ireland quite regularly so always getting new ones in. My friend bought a really lovely horse from them, everything they said she was and more :)

Thanks for this :)

Yes I think your right - going to have to travel a bit, when I typed in on horsequest my criteria about 4 hits for north west and about 150 for south west!
Have pm'd you about one, but there are others that could be seen
Thanks - will check my Pms :)

I have one that might suit you - he fits all your criteria but his competition experience is a bit rusty and may need bringing up to speed. He evented with my son a few years ago, but was spooky and erratic to show jump, so I took him over to hunt and have fun on as my old horse was ready for a quieter life. I've had a fantastic 3 years of doing anything and everything with him, but I haven't done much flatwork, nor much show jumping - we mainly charge about the countryside having fun!
He is the easiest horse to do, absolutely no trouble in any situation or company, with impeccable manners and he's nice looking and a good cuddler too (all important in my opinion!!).
I'm asking a bit more than your budget, but it may be worth a chat.....
PM if you'd like to know more.

Good for you- yes loving the name too!! is it a HHO's horse then ??
good luck with your search, we are just beginning and it is very daunting!! we are in the south east and where ever you are the horses you find that look perfect all seem to be somewhere else!!

I was looking for similar and in this price range but more a youngster to bring on as my boy is getting older now and this was earlier in the year, i have to say there is alot around at the moment and now is a great time for buyers as winters coming and people are more likely to take an offer on a horse if they don't have to keep them through winter. Its still not an easy task to find your new pal.. i keep my horses for life so its sucha big decision for me getting another horse and it must be the right one, if it comes along i know fate will let me know.. good luck with your search and keep us posted! Have to say another vote for Reggie.. seems to fit your criteria :)
