Need your help please

Which would you choose?

Which of these would you choose?

Option A.

4 acre field with lovely grass, just for my boys.
Well fenced with post and rail and maintained
Someone around to check on ponies, this someone also poo picks and cleans out water troughs for no extra charge.
No stabling but a large barn for tying up for farrier, vet etc.
No electric at moment but does have water.
Other person there shows and breeds and will help break in Blue and offer advice re: showing.
Unfortunately is 20 miles away so a bit of a hike.
But, is £35 a week for the 4 acres including ad lib hay.

Option B.

Around a couple of acres of good grass for the boys
Hawthorn hedge around larger field, separated into smaller paddocks with electric fencing.
Someone to check on ponies
Stables, with electric.
Other person there just hacks out (which is fine, but no breaking or showing advice).
Just a couple of miles from home.
£30 a week for the three boys, no hay or straw included.

Which would you choose? I really love the one that is 20 miles away, but the distance is a pain.
 
Depends what you want from it.

I'd go for option B as it's nearer, plus if you totalled up the money saved from the less milage than the other yard, that would probably cover your added hay costs/put towards an intructor if needed for breaking when you need it. :)
 
I went for option B - I keep my horses 13 miles from home and it is a big pain! Although I suppose if you have help and don't have to go there twice a day it is not such an issue. ..

All in all I am undecided. Option A sounds lovely, and the option of help (POOPICKING AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!!!) is a big bonus. Can you use the barn as a field shelter in winter if need be?

I don't know really. I guess if you can handle the 40 mile round trip each time you want to visit your horses (and factor petrol etc into the costs) then option A sounds good.

For me that would be too far.
 
Option B. Being near to home is a big thing for me. Also saves on petrol. Having a stable is a good thing too as and when you need it.

As for backing and show help. Im sure there are plenty of people that will help you.

Hmmm, dilemma! Have put colours (hopefully) on the pros and cons as far as I see it (green for good, red for not so much in case not immediately obvious lol!).

I would have to choose B I'm afraid for a couple of reasons:
1) It's close to home and if you're feeling rubbish or the weather's dire, it's far easier to get to to see your boys and
2) (and hopefully never an issue), but if, god forbid, one of the boys had an accident and needed box rest, the facilities are there. The electric is a huge bonus as well. Our vet practice refuses to use their portable x-ray on yards that use a genny (sp?) as they apparently wreck them.

At the end of the day, you have to go with your gut, hope that it all works out well :)
 
another one here for option B.

the closer the horses are the better, not only in bad weather but you cant just pop up for a quick hack if it takes you a hour to get there.:)
 
Would not even consider a yard 20 miles away from home.

It takes too much precious horsey time out of your day, is a drag in the dark winter and would cost £2,920 every year to visit just once a day.

That is the equivalent of £245 a month or £56 a week.

Plus, all the other pro's of a stable, electric and less wear and tear on your car (14,600 miles per year).

The £2,920 will buy a lot of hay, straw and instruction for your youngster. Plus you can keep your existing car much longer.
 
Option B is the only option really. Who wants to travel 40 miles round trip in the weather that we had last winter? On top of that theres no stable - what if you needed emergency box rest or something? For all that you'd save you could pay for someone to break the horse in and have lessons in showing...
 
I'm another option B person. Mine are currently 10 miles from home as it's my grandmothers house (so free!!) and half way between me and my parents (my mother also has a pony). I find having to do a 20 mile round trip expensive and annoying and it's back roads so at least 1/2 hour each way so time consuming.

20 miles away would just be too far.

Also would prefer to have the stable with electric option in case of emergency etc.
