Morning All

Now usually the greyhound is an angel when we go to work, but the last few days something has been upsetting her. We popped out Saturday for a while and came back to a trashed blind, dog blood up the window and general kitchen trashedness

Yesterday got home from work and there was slobber and nose juice up with window and claw marks through the nose juice on the glass. Oh and the bin had been tipped up *nice*

.

Now usually she is very good or so I am lead to believe, but I have no idea what is setting her off. Squirrels digging up the bulbs in the front garden? A cocky cat sitting on the drive?

I am going home this lunchtime to find out whether it is a AM or a PM thing.

Last night I have celotaped bubble wrap to the window to obscure her view .....

Any other ideas .... Do these DAP things work ...? I am currently ignoring her at all time just incase she might be too attached to me?!

HELP

Thanks

How long have u had her/has she been used to the being at home alone without any probs?

Do u leave the radio on to drown out any outside noise?

If she has all of a sudden causesd a little distruction.....it does sound a little stress/anxiety related, have u been spending any more time with her lately than usual?

How long have you had her and how long has this behaviour been going on? What you have put makes me think something is upsetting her outside that she'd like to get at and this is what is causing the destruction. In my experience if a dog can't get to something that it wants to it attacks the nearest thing in frustration (that's what our JRT's did)
Sounds like she trashed the blind in frustration and cut her mouth and then gave it what for at the window again. She's obviously having a go at something up against the window and clawing at it too. Have you got a video camera you could set up? Or a dictaphone which you could set up to go off when noise started! (yeah know not many people have dictaphone but worth a try

We use a DAP thingy for Bumble Dog when we go to France in the apartment as she can sit and howl if left on her own - we have not heard her do this once when using it so I think there must be something in them.

Hope you get to the bottom of it

Whoops two posts the same blooming thing.

AmyMay - I know the kids are off this week arent they I was wondering that. I have noticed house over the road - their black lab has taken to wandering about I wonder if she fancies him?

I have had her for nearly 4 years now and she is used to being left alone. Well when I say alone I mean she is left with another dog - my OH's. So she does have company.

Good idea regarding the radio - I shall dig it out of the loft, we did used to leave it one for them, but since we moved 2 years ago it has been in the loft since.

Time: no not really I try and keep her routine cant really think that the Bank Holiday weekend would have upset her.

She did get into a dog fight last weekend with my OH's dad retriever

I hope she isnt mentally scarred with other dogs passing the window.

Runaway: Regarding the blind I think she jumped up at the window and got caught in the string then might have panicked trying to get free?!
We were thinking along the lines of a motion detection camera to really find out what is going on - that is if I come home and find the bubble wrapped shredded.
My assumption regarding her trying to get after something is that she is an ex racer and she does look at the squirrels that frequent the back garden.

I might get them a Kong each to keep them occupied?

Thats good that your DAP worked I might try and get hold of one this weekend and put it on and see what happens.

Thanks for all your help peeps.

If she has been used a routine for 4yrs with no probs.....than does sound like something has disturbed her......is it possible a cat could have jumped on the window in view of her.....driving her into a little friendzy

My greyhound chases flies/wasps and she can knock things off benches and jump up at windows in order to catch them.

I would defo leave the radio on from now on and keep the window blocked off for a while.......see how she goes.

Well regarding the cat theory I am going to put some curry powder in the front borders to fend any cats / squirrels / other critters off.

I just wish she could talk and tell me what is upsetting her

.

I shall report tomorrow on the state of the bubble wrap.

Thanks for all your help.

PS I have given her some herbal remedy - some bach flower rescue and some other Dominance stuff I bought ages ago - might calm her down?!

Going to take her for an extra long walk to tire her out in the morning too.

can you be in another part of the house for the day and leave her in her usual place (where she is attacking the window) then you could maybe find out what it is, and make a really loud noise to distract her from the behaviour to try and break the pattern. bubble wrap very good idea, what about smearing something nasty tasting on the glass so when she gets her nose on it it distracts her from bad behaviour with the taste (not sure what you could use, maybe oil of cloves?)

my DAP diffuser made no difference whatsoever and cost me over £30, I also tried the DAP spray and found that had no effect either - that cost me £28, when I told my vet he said that the sucess rate for them both is very low. I had a bit of a problem with one of my dogs howling, a woman across the road would come and put notes in my letter box, I only left him about 6 times in 3 years and each time he allegedly howled. However I also discovered that he barked for 10 mins when I left in a morning (bearing in mind I had double glazing) this deranged woman from across the road - would dash across and hammer on my front window as soon as he barked, not allowing him time to settle, he then started to howl and kept that up all day -because she kept on banging on the window. How she could here him through my double glazing, a wide verge, a road, another wide verge - 5 metres of garden and her double glazing is beyond me. he was stressed because he was teh only one in and had a house to defend. Could there be someone doing something similar to your girl. It sounds totally out of character so something odd must have happened

For anyone who is interested lol

Well the bubble wrap didnt stand up to much lol as it was rather shredded when I popped back at lunchtime.

I would have dug the radio out of the loft last night but after a rather large glass of Merlot I decided I didnt fancy doing a screwball scramble to get said radio. So that is a task for this weekend.

Last night I took her a massive walk and again this morning walked her again.

Something did dawn on me too, the Old Boy seems to be a bit frisky so we were wondering if the dog food is a slightly higher protein content ie a dodgy batch.

Anyway more walkies this weekend ..... and tuning in the radio ....

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Hey sweets - didn't see this yesterday!!

Poor girly - something is obv upsetting her!!!

There are increased numbers of squirrells/pigeon/crows and KIDS around at the moment - I wonder if they are upsetting her?

It could be since her 'scrap' is there a lab round your area? does someone walk past the window with one?

Can you out them in a diff room as a trial and see if she 'acts up' in there?

There is a lab at the house over the road who runs about a bit - she might fancy him so you never know.

I really prefer the dogs to be in the kitchen, I wouldnt be happy leaving them in the lounge in case of whoopie doo doo's
crazy.gif
plus they would think it was Christmas they would be all over the furniture too
smirk.gif
.

I might buy a big bush / tree / big planty things and stand it right in her view lol

[/ QUOTE ]Maybe - OR she may feel she needs to protect her territory - and is staking her claim - even if it is the otherside of the window!?!?!
