needed farmer to make my haylage

Do any of you lovely people know of a farmer who would be able to make my haylage ... like now ..our field is in Lapworth and its 10 acres of land
I had a farmer lined up and kept saying for last 2 months ...no problem.. now he has just turned round and said he has loads on so may have to wait another 4 weeks !!!
I really need this doing now as I dont want it to go over ...we need rocket fuel haylage.
any suggestions or numbers ???
 
Look up Agricultural Contractors in the phone book or Yell.com - or ask the man who let you down , he might rethink if he thinks you are going elsewhere rather than wait 4 weeks.
Mine is nowhere near ready yet BTW

I have been googling farm contractors with no luck ..have contacted a few but not heard from any yet ..
I have this field from neighbour who usually has it topped a few times a year ..she has kindly let me produce Haylage ..she is getting twitchy as they are used to seeing it mowed by now ... It has seed heads bursting already so wanted it before it goes to seed.
 
Google "machinery rings" for your area. If still stuck, I'd phone around agricultural machinery dealers, tractor dealers, farm livestock auctioneers, even the man who has let you down, etc. If they don't know, ask then if they know anyone who would know. The rural grapevine is usually pretty good and it is mostly word of mouth.
 
I agree word of mouth is your best bet, ask people you know who they use. Majority of ag contractors will be really busy and hard to get hold of at the moment due to getting silage done though.

Unfortunately contractors arent interested in small parcels of land as they have bigger fish to fry. If they do get back to you it's when they've finished all the big jobs and your field has gone past its best. That's what happens in my area anyway. I would say your best bet is to track down a retired farmer who has a little smallholding , like a hobby farmer. Over the years we have bought our own equipment as sick of being let down. If you have your own tractor you may be able to hire the equipment and diy.
 
Have you tried Duncan Hawley, based in Henley? He does ours and I can pm you his no. if required, but would need to check with him that was in order first.

Thnak you Chrissie ..I have spoken to Duncan Sunday night and he is popping round tomorrow ...fingers crossed he can do it :-)
