Husband took our collie to the vet (see post below) and its not looking good. Very anaemic, vet is wondering whether she has some liver and/or kidney failure.

She has been given antibiotics and they are taking her back in tomorrow to put on a drip and to x-ray for possible tumour.........

Vet has told us that she is very poorly...........

Hubby phoned me at work in tears which made it all the worst..........

Just devastated.......she was so perfectly fit and well yesterday.............how can this happen so suddenly????? I just dont understand.............

Have had her since she was born, 11 years ago and just cannot imagine life without her...........everytime I think about it I just want to cry.........

Her name is Sharon.......hubby named her after "Sharon Stone"............

She is just the highlight for anyone who visits us because she jumps backwards with a bit of straw in her mouth and with a muffled bark..............such a friendly full of life dog..........and now this has happened.............

Sorry just cannot believe it.....

Oh i am sorry. It's heartbreaking to see a faithfull companion poorly.I am sending you both big hugs and special hugs to your dog.I hope she gets better. My 16 year old collie is on borrowed time after have major bouts of Vestibular syndrome and almost losing him 3 times this year,so i now how you feel.

Keep positive - the vet thought our cat had liver damage, £600 and lots of tlc later she was fine -it turned out to be a virus.

Sending you loads of postive vibes and hugs. I know its easier said than done but try not to worry too much until the vet has carried out further tests.

Sorry seems such a useless word at times like these.....but it's the best I can do Anastasia. I really am so sorry, and I have my fingers tightly crossed that your little girl will be with you for many more years.

I have an old 14 year old, VERY much loved collie, so I know exactly how you must be feeling. The thought of losing mine is almost too much for me to bear.

I lost my beloved dog recently, she had a very short sudden illness and was only 9!

Good vibes to your baby and i hope from the bottom of my heart it all goes well for you.

Be strong for her. xx

I went through exactly the same thing as you a few years ago,one of our collies (he was 11 too) was taken ill suddenly, turned out he had kidney failure,my dad was quite blunt with the vet and said do you honestly think it would be fair to keep him going, the vet said he could keep him going but lots of different pills were needed to keep him alive, my dad decided there and then that he wanted him to go when he was still with it and not weeing constantly (a sign of kidney failure). My dad very much believes in doing whats best and although the vet wasn't going to say it you could tell that even by keeping him alive with pills he wouldn't have much of a life.It was heartbreaking and bizarre because the day Wally went off us kids thought he'd be back in a hour-he never did which was hard to take when your young,at the end of the day he was my dads dog so it was up to him.My own collie Wally's brother Woody thankfully died in my arms a year later,it was very peaceful,he waited for me to come home from school and i said my goodbyes before he went.I still havn't got over it and i was 13 at the time,i'm now 24.Sorry this isn't a great story but at least you'll have an idea as to whens the right time,11 is a very good age for a collie,i hope Sharon makes it,i have everything crossed for you and her.God Bless

Thank you guys for your support and good vibes, it means a great deal just now...

UPDATE - Sharon was given a high dose of antibiotics yesterday. Last night she did eat and drink. This morning she was a little brighter than the same time yesterday. Hubby took her back to the vets this morning and she was given another injection of antibiotics, so they have not put her on a drip yet. I have to take her back to the vet again tomorrow morning for monitoring and if she deteriorates at all today I take her in straight away.

I will have to post a picture of her with her bit of straw in her mouth. We had her mother and she was born on the farm. She is as mad as a hatter but has the most amount of love to give. She has been with us the same length of time I have been married, as she was born just a week after............

I dont have children, so my horses and dog mean just the world to me. I know they dont live forever but I guess when they are always around you just cannot imagine life without them.

So keep the good vibes coming please as she is far from being out of the woods yet.

xxxxx

Had her back to the vets this morning for another antibiotic injection. She seems a bit more perky, although still sleeping a lot. Her temperature is back to normal.

She is now on antibiotics for another three days and goes back to the vets on Monday for more bloods. If the bloods show an improvement the vet will be happy. If no improvement then it could be something more sinister. I am praying its not the latter.

She is drinking ok and eating ok now, but will sleep a lot.

Thank you for all your good vibes..........keep them going until Monday at least!!
