Especially those that use for sweetitch do you use it on sunny days?

I'm having great success with a neem oil gel & have now ordered pure oil but am worried about sunburn issues. Having not used it before I don't know if it sinks into the skin or lays on top.

I wouldn't use it on pink skin on a sunny day. It is fine on black skin - I use it all summer on my horse with no problem, including on his face and sheath, but he is a bay :) It would be just like any other oil on pink skin, not worth risking, would definitely lead to burns.

I use it on underneath him and on less sensitive parts when it is sunny but I have found it can burn his ears a bit on the hot sunny days.

Thanks everybody, that's a bit of a shame but I guessed it would be the case.

I'll have to change the order & get the gel again as that doesn't seem to cause any burning in the sun.

The gel will probably be no more than 10% neem oil. I mix with bulk bought aloe vera gel and don't get any burning on 2 mainly white coloured or a white Lipizzaner. You can also mix with water to spray on (use a teaspoon of washing up liquid as an emulsifier to mix oil & water) Most of the time only need 5% neem oil, have only upped to 10 with the horrendous large horse flies over the last 2 weeks. :-)

The gel is neem oil and aloe vera Yertis but it doesn't say in which ratio, I'll ask when I ring tomorrow.

If it's such a low % of neem would the pure neem oil therefore be too strong? I've only just started using this and am getting myself a bit confused with what to use.

My friend uses the oil neat on her section D, with no problems - but he is black. She dabs it all down his mane, along his back and into the tail. It seems to seep through the coat. Also wears a fly rug. Mind you, the smell is chronic.
