As above, totally confused with it all tbh. I gave her an equest pramox in the autumn and just did a worm count today, negative. So do i need to give anything?
was speaking to westgate labs about our results we had back from vets, they said no horse has a negative or 0epg, it should be <50epg. egg counts are a snapshot of what is happening at one particular time, if you were to retest in a few weeks you'd probably get a different result as it may be that worms present aren't shedding eggs when horse was tested. I wouldnt necessarily worm again now, but maybe contact westgate and ask for some advice, they are very good if you send a message via fb.
I give a wormer about now for the encysted worms (I usually use Panacur 5 day) as they don't show up on a count and apparently winter is the time to get them. I then do worm counts throughout the rest of the year and only worm if they show a count (which they never seem to) and I do a tapeworm one in autumn as counts don't show tapeworm either.
Your best bet is to talk to the SQP wherever you buy your wormer or at the lab that do your counts. I spoke to the worm count lab and they were really helpful with advising me.
<50epg, the lowest count you can get. Worm counts cannot detect Tapeworm, so re-count in spring and if still low (below 200epg) just worm for Tapeworm then. You really should have been given advice as you bothered getting the test done
Did u wait 14 weeks from your Pramox worming before worm count? Our lab makes sure we don't do it too soon and get a false result.
Pramox will do encysted redworm but I think for it to be effective them it needs to be winter ie after first frosts (which were v late in our area before xmas).
