Sorry it's been one of those days where I haven't stopped since 6.30 this morning!
Yes I have emailed the WHW and attached the photo's. I know they prefer for me to phone but their offices are now closed till Monday and I really think the photo's explain how bad they are better than I can.
I will follow up with a call on Monday so fingers crossed they will be able to do something although I'm not sure what!
The burrs really are causing a huge amount of discomfort, especially the little boy on the last photo. He kept tossing his head up and down, one minute the matted forlock would stick right up in the air, then fall forward, its driving him mad
I am going to stop by again tomorrow as the skewbald foal is playing on my mind, he really didn't look that well.
I will email the local paper as I know they published the last tragic story. The problem is I would also hate for them to be moved somewhere out of site. The one blessing where they are is that they are very visible to a large amount of the general public and I know the office staff at Browns are keeping a close watch on them.
Just really sad because which ever way you look at it they do not deserve living such an uncomfortable life. I just hope it hasn't attracted flies to lay eggs or something similar.
One of the mares had a large number of small, round, bald raised legions on her chest. I'm not sure if its ringworm, looks similar to small round sarcoids? Will try and get a pic of her.
Feel for you, would hate to have this nearby, I will think about them tonight I know it will worry me despite not seeing it. You are doing what you can, take some comfort from that. I like the baby oil idea, cheap and easy to apply, worth a go?
Please could I ask a question some of you might think is really stupid... but what causes burrs?
What an easy answer for them, the burrs are not a welfare issue, well i think they are, in the sense of them being uncomfortable, the horses are not able to use their mane and tail for their correct function, what insects are living in the burrs, spiders, maybe snakes, very disappointed with the whw and rspca
