Why do we continue to have such ignorant uncaring, uncompassionate people

Horses stolen whilst on loan
Horses brought for a pound and sold for meat
Horses transported live to france and left to give birth on the ship (I actually know where the little mare and foal ended up after the cargo was turned around at the channel islands a few years ago)
Horses just misunderstood, overfed, underfed, neglected, tortured, worked into the ground... we are seeing it everywhere, and now this gem of an owner!

The rest of what I would love to say about some of these people will remain unsaid, TFC would probably have to tell me of for it.

dear god, that is awful.

It really upsets me to to think that for every animal whose story makes the press, there must be hundreds of poor abused animals out there that don't ever get found :(

Its appalling, I know and I am not making any excuses BUT I still believe the majority of people are good. Why these people are the way they are I couldn't tell you. What really horrifies me is that half the time they genuinly do not seem to think they were doing any harm!

I will never understand the ban system. It's far too lenient, that pony obviously has severe and very long standing laminitis! :( Should be a life ban or at least a ban with no return until they can prove they know how to look after horses basic needs for good general health.

That is awful. Some people make me sick! Good to know they are recovering now and receiving the correct care, but still, they did not deserve that, and the woman who did it is getting off lightly considering she neglected them so badly. Poor horses :(

The more I see, the more depressed I get. Cruelty and neglect are more common in the horse world than many might imagine.

For example; I live in a fairly affluent area, very 'horsey' with several high level professionals in based nearby, , so you would expect horses in this neck of the woods to get a pretty good deal.

Yet a mile from my house are four horses with a body condition score is a '2' at best during the summer and into minus numbers in the winter, and whose feet are never trimmed. Needless to say, because they are still able to stand the RSPCA and WHW are not interested.

A couple of miles away is an area of land supporting about 20/30 mares and a stallion that are being bred purely to ship to the continent for meat.

I despair :mad::mad::mad:

so very true :(

There is a horse local to me that was an absolute star, only about 9 yrs, she ended up with some new owners who loved her to pieces, she ended up with lami, it was fixed and she went back out in the field, to be fair they did try a muzzle on and the pony wouldn't keep it on, the YO (also not very horsey) didn't agree with them restricting the pony, thought it was cruel, the vet took bloods and diagnosed EMS, and prescrubed medication, but failed to drill into the caring but naive owners the importance of restriction, diet and exercise. Any of us would have moved yards if we couldn't restrict, but these owners didn't, they (I think) thought this wonder pill from the vets would help. pony was shot this summer, after another bout of lami, in which it was decided that the rotation of the pedal bone could have been fixed, but with EMS it wasn't worth it. I knew this little mare before all this, and when she was correctly cared for and NOT FAT no one was shouting EMS and LAMI, OR PEDAL BONE OR PTS!!

It doesn't matter how people end up doing wrong by horses (whether deliberately or not) it is still something that sickens me to the core.

Unfortunately these cases and the ones I know of local to me are the reason I will be so glad to get out of the horse world when my old girl goes. I'm just sick sick sick of peoples' stupidity, ignorance and everything else besides. I can't stand to look at it any more.

Absolutely this. You only have to open your eyes to realise that for every aged or crocked animal with a happy ending there must be a thousand living a life of misery and neglect. It drives me bonkers when people trying make responsible choices to prevent suffering get labelled the pts brigade or similar. If horses could speak I wonder what they would choose.
