After all the stuff theres been on here about james gray .... a lot of us asked how long does it take for horses to end up like that, well let me tell you

10 weeks, today i collected my horse that was loan, hes in a bad way i saw the rescued horses at the horse trust, and it disgusts me to say my boy is worse, ive scored him at a 1- 2 if im being generouse.

vets out asap todo a full report, and i also want the back up of any one, ie the rspca, im being urged to prosocute,
im gutted my poor poor horse.

Is this pluto? emma told me about him. You must be gutted.

Hope he gets better now he is home.

i sound like a pleb but i cant stop crying, how the hell can people do this to horses, and they were still riding him, they have let his rugs rub so bad that his shoulders and chest are burning to touch. he is such a wonderful horse, but now its like he just dosnt care. no spirit.

id like to put the pics up but guess its better not to, i dont mind sharing so pm if you want to see them, he wnt away a fit horse with a huge neck (hes a lipizzaner) now his head looks to big for his neck.

You're really not a pleb. I don't think I'd even be able to type through the tears. I'm sure he'll start to feel better soon, especially no he's back with you. We rescued one a few years ago and within he week he look better, still skinny, but a twinkle in the eye makes all the difference

thosse pics were only taken on a mobile, hes struggling with his backend walking one foot in front of the other, back teeth, saddle, worming, he even had blood tests done last october, after being tucked up. so i now he went to them as healthy as he could be,

yorksg, its going to months, not weeks, you can see every rib, the heave line hip bones, pelvis, and every bump on his spine. thats how bad it is.

What did they give as the reason for his poor condition.
It is soul destroying to see what people can do to a living creature. I hope that he will recover well. Make sure that the vet sees him as soon as possible to ensure that there are no immediate problems.

when i asked last night, she just said she thought he was ok, she cant of been feeding him and they sound like they had been riding hard, (when he went he was very fit, )

vets in on tueday to do a written report and take bloods, i think mucsel wastage is going to be the big issue. am having him home for a bit, then will turn him out and leave him alone. at the mo hes on short grass and adlib hay, at least for a few days i darent give hard food other than a bit of hifi with a supplement (min and vit.) id rather he was in, but he stresses,

Just got pics. How awful. Did you know the loaner or did they reply to an advert?

What did they say they've been feeding him? Poor boy give him loads of hugs and keep him warm bit of bran mash me thinks.

i knew the loaner off another forum. they tried him twice, saw yard, i feed him ride and relax and chaff, twice a day, in december he was living out and as you can see was a good weight,

dont think a mash is a great idea as hes pretty loose as it is. wees very smelly.cloudy aswell.

what did you think seeing the pics?

i dont think he was worked every day, kid was 15, and was having atough time with exames ect.

field wasnt that muddy, and there was grass, he had a stable but dont think hed been in it iver night as it looked the same as the day we dropped him off. nose and eyes are clear, he was labourd breathing when i was trying to load him (bad loader with trailer.) but apart from stomping, travel well and came off 100% not hot ect.
main worrys are muscel wastage, and stress on organs. i will update this thread with the vets report/rspca report. if hed been worked hed have muscels still he dosnt,

When we work with annorexic people who have very low BMI'S the main rules are 1) severly rextrict exercise, 2) feed bland but good quality food, at frequent intervals. We had a rescue mare who had been in very poor condition and had then been fed up by the first rescuer, she had thrown so much food at the mare that she ended up with an incredible number of feed intolerances, grain and sugar. We could only ever feed her on unmolassed alfalfa and hay, we discovered via trial and error. She did however live to be 24.

my thought have been grass, (we have plenty but its short) i always give them as much hay as they want to eat, and am going to just give him hifi lite and a supplement tonight. i know what my 2s poos look like so should be able to go and find his for a look tomorrow. will in about a week introudce hard food, at a handful atime 3 or 4 times a day.

ive never dealt with a neglect case so shall be seeking advice.

As I said How awful the decline in such short a time is not good. When I asked about the feed I meant what did THEY say they fed him on?

So sorry your horse has ended up like this, no wonder you are gutted and in tears. Hopefully he will pick up once he is getting some good food and a bit of tlc. I bet you are so relieved you went to see him.

I had a pony that was brought to me in disgusting state, body score of 1 or 1.5 max according to vet. Had lots of conversations with various bodies about it, but it was before the new welfare act came in and they all said he was not bad enough to prosecute.

But from what you say, yours is worse, body score of less than one required for prosecution a year ago apparently, not sure with new act but make sure you keep all evidence, photos, use weigh tape etc. What state are his feet in?

Mine had very smelly wee too, very depressed, took quite a while to put the weight back on (but I haven't got much grass). Took at least 6 months before we got the sparkle back, but hopefully yours will be happy to be home where he knows and trusts people.

This pony still can't believe his luck when I turn up to feed him three times a day (what, more food? for me? I must be in heaven!).

Keep us updated.

((Sends you some vibes and hugs))
Your not a pleb for crying, I would be crying too, and like someone said, tis a good job you checked on him before you sold him.
I hope he recovers soon

I hope to see some picturs in a few weeks of a much happier horse!

My Mum rescued one when I was young. The vet said put him down. The girl had no money for feed and a bare paddock. We just fed him grass and wormed him. Not too much grass at once. we tethered him (I know that's not popular nowadays!) and after 3-4 months he was fine. He became a lovely children's pony and we kept him for the rest of his days.
I hope your boy will be alright. It's amazing how they can recover.

they were feeding him apparently ride and relax and chaff, when i was there last night they gave him a huge bucket full of chaff with mix in, didnt look like ride and relax. he was also very thirsty.

i almost hope its bad enough as i want to do something about it, weather it was ment to happen or not both are as bad as each other,

ive sorted out a field for him to go to when im ready, my mares trying to kill him, so will seperate them tomorrow, although it seems to be only when im there, when i got to yard all 3 were off grazing, and when we drove by to look before we left this afternoon they were all together grazing.

shocking, hes feet i havnt yet had a close look at, but front shoes are like razors, will get rugs off and look closer tomorrow and get more pics. hes not in the mood for anything at the moment just wants to be left alone to graze/eat hay

Poor boy, I hope he recovers soon now he is home and safe.
Is this the people who posted on another forum that they were getting your horse before you said they could have him?

irishcobs.... no! the family that had him seemed sooooo nice, kid loved him mum loved him nice yard ect. other horse fine,
