Neglect

poor you!!! how devastating......you must be so angry and upset all in one, but well done for checking up, thank goodness you did!

If he does turn out to have a virus, my boy had one last winter and looked awful as it kept coming back like M.E. - RVC vet was surprised it kept recurring.

He got better with his regular Hifi and nuts but added NAF pink powder for his tum and Blue Chip and when he was low with virus some bute and Visorbin iron tonic - RVC vet recommendations.

He's finally stopped relapsing with the virus and came through this winter well - he's already got dapples and he's bay :-)))

I hope this helps for some ideas on building him back up again. We also did regular exercise incl Pessoa as he lost all muscle off the back and is quite lazy and forehand heavy. anyway.

once ive got weight on i plan to turn him away until later summer. ive just got to wait for the vet. i am also having a rspca inspector do a report aswell, i want as much kick if i have a case.

please no one think its for money its not, its because it cant be let go. to many people get away with it.

I would get vat asap. Emergency call, Sunday.
as with some grass he should not have got that bad,, at his age, In case of a virus or medical problem.
Esp is near to your other horses.
And get worm count done

It is such a sad story when this happens, and my heart goes out to you... but on the other side (But the loaners should have noticed and done something anyway!)... when my sisters horse dropped huge amounts of weight, the vet said that they wouldnt drop that much condition in such a short amount of time as he was turned out all the time even though with little feed and grass. My sisters horse went like this and it turned out he had cancer.
:-/
Maybe they didnt treat your horse that bad, and he genuinely has something up with him? as you saw them feed him and no-one appeared to ride that much - Have you spoken to someone else on the yard they was at to see if they fed him etc?
I guess the vet can only say what is up, i just dont want the vets to be steered into the direction of a neglect case if it isnt, as they potentially could miss a diagnosis of something else.

mb im having full bloods done ect so if anything inside is wrong ect this should show up. i dont care about the cost, and i agree i wouldnt want to have them done for neglect if it was genuine.

hes deffinatley had a rough time, appears to have a huge problem with being in the stable, hes never liked being in but so long as he could see others has always been ok.

also i went towards him with a brush and he shied away from me. very odd as he was a horse that would sit on you when having a bum scatch.

have plied his rug rubs with sudo cream, left to go in then vasalined,

looking at him more closely, hes arse is a triangle, hes neck is about inches less than it was. when you stand at look at him for the back every main bone is sticking out. he has very odd lumps all over him.
i also think that where hes been ridden the saddle has caused problems.
have taken load more piccies.

i did discuss with the vet about coming out asap, but he knows the horse and the conditon he was in, and as i have the pictures from friday night, we thought it better to let him chill before being poked and prodded ect. plutos clearly not his self and to be honest getting my boy back is above everything.

oh and hes feet, have been done recentley and are ok,
somebody said to me about insurance. they emailed me the details, but i noticed theres no ref number on it, so think it may of been the details of a quote. i shall call petplan tomorrow, if thats the case thats another breach of the agreement.

Im so sorry for you. This has happened to me twice now. Last year we rescued our mare from a dreadful loan home, she was barely able to support herself she was so bad.
She has taken a good 12 months to come right.
I then TRUSTED someone with my gelding........how wrong could I be, he was gone merely 10 weeks and came home 2 weeks ago, scared, thin, teeth problems from rough handling, head shy, broken spirited........his hollow eyed look breaks my heart so I know how you must feel.
The RSPCA investigated the mares loan home, gave the guy a caution and his other TB died in his care just weeks later.
As for the girl who had my beloved gelding......I have to return her rug next week!!!!!!!
I will NEVER EVER loan my horses again no matter how glowing the references are or how fantastic the facilities are.
At the end of the day our horses are our and ours alone responsibility it would seem and no one is to be trusted.
I am sickened by the amount of loan horror storied I have heard recently.

Your boy will pick up now he is home with you, dont beat yourself up about it as we do think we are doing the loan in their best interests.
Sending you and him a big HUG.
