Well we're getting there bit by bit i think. Thank you to everyone who's been onto the ILPH for me.

The filly has now been provided with a bale of haylage and some water. She's still on her own though, which is a shame - she looks so lonely. I'm so anthropomorphic!!

I've been wondering why she's alone and i cant work it out. There are loads of other fields with gypsy horses, and they all have company. And there's room for her in any one of those fields.

Anyway, there's a BHS welfare rep going out to her tomorrow. The ILPH inspector is going out again too, probably with a vet (which the ILPH are going to have to pay for, because the owner either isn't complying or is uncontactable!) Apparently it is doubtful that a vet will do anything though - unless a horse is in severe distress, i think they just advise on treatment.

I watched Animal Cops Houston before. There were a couple of horses in a field with a bit of rubbish in and the horses were "starving to death" according to the inspector. They gave the owner 24 hours to tidy the field and get a vet out. He didnt comply, so they got a warrant the next day and took the horses. It went to court and the owner lost. The horses were nowhere near as skinny as this filly. Now why cant we have a system like that in this country?
Also, if the inspector is finding it difficult to trace the owner, why cant the horse be classed as abandoned and seized on those grounds??
I wonder what would actually happen if they seized her. Would the gypsies really react in a violent/dangerous way towards the ILPH? Would they even care she'd gone?

Whenever i speak to the inspector, he leaves me feeling guilty for saying they're not doing enough. But then i go and see the filly and i get all wound up again! Stresses me out!! I know he's trying, but i know at the end of the day i wont be happy until she's no longer in the care of these people. I just hope i never have to deal with a horse that is in such a state that they can seize it immediately - i cant imagine how bad they must have to be.

At least she has food and water now though. And this field has more shelter than the last one, so hopefully her rainscald will start to heal.

Just got to wait and see what tomorrow brings......

Pleased to read this ,you are such a star. How old did you say she was and has she had any signs of choke since ,lets hope they can get this one signed over and put her in a rescue centre.

She's about 2 i think. Been through so much already, what with losing the foal and all.
I havent seen her 'vomit' again, but we've only been spending very short periods of time with her - scared of being seen in the field with her! But we were talking to another girl today who knew her when she was stabled, and she said she'd seen her 'vomit' a few days ago too. So it wasnt just a one-off. When we've taken little feeds to her, she's been eating it ok, if a little slow, so that's a good sign i think?

It must be so hard for you, being so close, yet unable to anything tangible for fear of the wrath of the gypsies.

I think the ILPH guy is doing all he can within his powers and given the constraints of our legal decrees (and the complications of the traveller element) on such matters.

It is easy to be disgruntled, and I can well see why you think the field officer's actions seem feeble, but he has been doing this a long time, knows his stuff and needs to keep whatever good relations he has managed to cultivate with the travellers intact if at all possible. He is very frustrated and she isn't the only one on his 'urgent case' list by any means. I expect the previous horrors of the foal still haunt you and you don't want to revisit that scene a second time.

Give him a chance and credit for his efforts so far

I've given a few cages a bit of a rattle and your endeavours and personal actions have surely made some difference. Lets see if tomorrow brings better news for her. Do keep us updated and chin up

You have done a lot more than most. Before people start and say it will only make room for more of the same for another horse if she is saved, you will have made a difference to her life and for that you should feel cheered.

Good luck x

Your doing such a great job for this poor pony and at least she's got some food and water now, you would think they would just seize her but I suppose its all down to legalities ect, lets hope tomorrow brings some good news for her x

You are doing everything in your power Lou and I understand how frustrating it is when the urgency of the case isnt being treated as quickly as we would all like. Tomorrow is D day so lets hope that the BHS, ILPH and vet can create a positive outcome for this little mare. Wish I was a little nearer so could be of help. Do you know what time the authorities are visiting her and will you be there?

You have done brilliantly so far. I agree, the ILPH is restricted in it's actions, but, hopefully, following their guidelines, they can soon remove this poor filly. Keep up your fabulous work, you are an angel to this filly.

Good news that things are moving along with this one. You're doing a great job.
It beggars belief that a horse has to almost be at death's door for the welfare organisations to be able to remove it - and, yes, I know that a lot of the time their hands are tied by our ridiculous legislation. The tragedy of it is that I expect in another few weeks or months you'll be posting again with another case of neglect involving these vile people.
Keep the updates coming and I hope you get a good outcome for this little filly. It certainly won't be for lack of trying if you don't.

I know he's trying now and that it's mostly down to our pathetic laws that she's still where she is, but it's so frustrating! I know that these people will never change their ways, so i dont see the point in trying to make them. I'm too impatient! I just dread going down there one day and finding her dead, like we did with the foal. She'd still be alive now if they had have made them clear the field up straight away. I guess i'm just bitter about that.

I also hate the fact that the inspector has to be nice to them. I know he has to, but surely he must just want to beat the living cr*p out of them?! I do! Some of the stories i've heard from the girls that shared a yard with them are heartbeaking and i dont want this filly to go through that. She looks bout ready to give up as it is.

it is so frustrating but you are making a difference and i am hoping for the best tomorrow. i hope that little filly knows how many people who have never met her ,care about her. please keep us up to date.

Good luck for tomorrow, I'll keep my fingers crossed that they do something for her. However small it seems, there has been an improvement in her situation in the last week. x

Just wanted to add my voice to say that you have been amazing in your efforts. I hope and pray too that tomorrow brings some positive news x

You really have done everything you could for this poor horse and I really hope, for your own satisfaction as much as the horse's, that a result comes out of this. However, if she now has food and water I wonder if they will be able to do anything.

well thats exactly wat i said to lou when i seen that they had put food and water in with her. what gets me is that the ilph havent told the gypsys that they will giv them so many days for a vet to come out. Instead the ilph will pay for one to come, what other kind of person would they do that with? If this filly does not get taken from them (which i highly doubt) the ilph may keep an eye on her for a few weeks until they feel that the gypsys are taking care of her. when the gypsys think they have stopped coming then they will go bak to there old ways. Wen all this blows over or even before wen the ilph are not looking they will take her out on the trap. Thats prob how she got to this other field in the first place. You all know how thin and weak she, well she has to pull 2 maybe 3 of the fattest ba3t4rds you will ever meet. When one of our other friends called the ilph out to some other gypos, it was because they had another filly pulling a trap on a 40 mile round trip, when she came bak she could hardly stand. the ilph just looked at her and said that there are no laws stating how old a horse has to be before being broken to pull a trap, i think that is just disgusting. She will never improve, not while she is with these scum bags. As for food and water, so what, she needs a hell of alot more than that at the moment. Sorry about the rant, just need to get it off my chest. Thank you for all your support x

Well done MM, you're are really doing a fantastic job.

Just to say again though - if, as you think, the 'owner' wants to pack it all in - why doesn't the ILPH ask if he would be willing to sign the mare over to them?

I know it appears they can't track him down - but obviously someone is in contact with him.........
