'Former champion and federal bar the horse is scandal

For days, a video documenting the barrage of casual riding a horse shakes Italian. The recording was made in secret, during a recent stage held by former Brazilian champion show jumping Nelson Pessoa and organized by the Committee of Lombardy FISE-Italian equestrian sports federation, which was aimed at instructors jumping, as well as to members children and juniors. While the pictures are running the animal, a gray, confident galloping towards the obstacle taking steps to overcome it. But in the parable of a barrier is raised several inches of stroke, going to hit him with force - even judging by the noise - on the front. So come out from behind the Pilieri the two men who had been hiding, one would seem the old glory equestrian assisted in this by a couple of members of the federation of Lombardy. Just commissioner, the latter, but apparently decided to appeal against the measure.

Beyond the long-standing struggle between factions tearing the FISE, a non certain animal and deeply in debt to the figure on the basis of its own existence - the horse, the anger comes in the face of open-mindedness with which certain methods are used. The public occasion, institutional, educational, offers young barriered the shins as normal practice to follow. This technique, unfortunately widely aims to induce the horse to lift your legs with more strength during the jump, not to make any mistake. However, this is a real betrayal of trust of the animal, in addition to causing pain, often engenders fear and stress irremediable.

Today, the world of show jumping points the finger at this ugly gesture, whose arrogant tranquility by veterans of the environment shows how one starts from impropriety and non-compliance with the horses, at least in Italy, to train those who embrace the sport.
But everyone knows that frequent the jumping mistreatment far worse are the order of the day. Substances stinging spread legs and crowns so that contact with the barrier is fierce, nails, glass, sticks. And still beating, punishment, exhausting workouts. Among the knights who commented with disdain now the sad episode Lombard, include very few virgins. How many in fact, encouraged by the willingness of juries and perennial commissioners, are removed from the race baiting the animal that has not met the expectations? Practices of those who use banned drugs and cruel, or exploit animals forcing them to exhausting tour? How many wealthy amateurs buy horses healthy and fit, to dismetterli when folded in body and mind regardless of their fate?
Even more so at home, in private stables, shall be no controls, nor one takes the trouble to denounce wrongdoing, if not wicked.
In the name of spectacular, especially at high level, riding requires contemporary performance at the limits of the horses, whose welfare may be sacrificed to the logic of commerce and personal ambitions.

Of course, also meet great riders, trainers intelligent, who interpret sport as an opportunity to tune with the animal, and know how to achieve results through respectful manners. It is however, at least from us, of a minority. Not that the malpractice, however, projecting the Blues on top of the podium, for decades the Italian show jumping - a glorious time - limps and collect mediocre results.
At the start of the Csio Piazza di Siena, the most famous equestrian Italian, it would be appropriate that the Federation and institutions ragionassero urgency of renovation. From a serious educational policy-oriented approach that respects patients with these animals and generous, to continue with rules, limits, training of personnel and employees, that favor a system capable of ensuring protection to the horses in work and retirement mandatory in case of accident and old age.
In other countries, for example in the U.S., at least you try to fight the bad behavior by publishing detailed list of the guilty: it's the retort in the field test, or the serious fury on the animal, the names of the Federal punished appear regularly on the site, then a bimonthly magazine repeats the list and deepens.

No, but ugly as sin. :( (Only marginally more damaging than sticking two fingers up at the Queen.)

Friends horse was rapped.....had scars on him and was petrified of show jumps for years, it took her ages and started again from beginning.

Its sick and disgusting.

Terrible, hoped this was buried years ago.

On the flip side local pro sj is a brilliant, kind empathic horseman I rate so highly I sent my Arab youngster to him for backing.

Wake up a horse? Depends. Thing is there's lots of exercises to encourage not hitting fences. Equally, they may not like the job or have topped out. I bred SJ's and have my own. I would never consider rapping. Equally I don't believe in pinch boots or anything extreme. They want to do it or don't. Then again I'm not doing it to make a living.

The other night I was at a tiny schooling show for the ponies. A big black shiny mare gets off a very nice rig and all the gear goes on. Hubby says to me a few mins later that I should say something to the girl about the boots as they look to be pinching tendon. Poor clueless hubby. Although I do think girl was clueless too. I mean pinch boots in the mini? What is it 40 or 50 CM's? I don't know. Just there giving the ponies a day out. By the way my clears earned me candybars!

I have a mare that beats herself up for having a pole which was rare enough. Polling her would be silly. She always tries. I don't believe in punishing a trier. But again I haven't dealt with ones that don't try. Career change me thinks but again it's not a living so I can be high and mighty.

Not surprised to see FISE involved in this.

The 'teaching' standards of Italian sj instructors and the riders they produce is shocking. I know of one yard which threw out their instructor for various unsavoury actions and replaced him temporarily with the top (German) eventing coach in North Italy. She was so shocked by the riding capabilities she promptly knocked the pupils down two-three categories, cue complaining by riders and parents... they didn't care that they weren't riding well, just that they won and got their money's worth!

I also found that when I started my FISE qualifications, I was on a course with a girl who regularly competed 120cm jumping, but had to ask how to put on a headcollar!

Though this had been stamped out years ago. Shocked that it is still going on. Causing pain and fear to any horse when it is trying hard to do its best is just not on, no matter how 'experienced' or 'well known' you are. In fact that makes it worse because people coming into the sport are more likely to think that it is OK to do stuff like this 'because the professionals do'.

My old Connemara cloud was ruined because of my old instructor rapping her. When cloud refused to jump it, the instructor got on and started whipping her on the head! Cloud ended up crashing through the arena fence! Cloud was a really classy pony before that , she loved jumping and could clear 1.30m courses if she wanted to! Now she barely has the confidence to get over 80cm... And this is 4 years on!

I would never , ever do rapping.

Didn't appear too full-on. Sure lots worse happens. Those horses are their business and livelihood. Not condoning harsh treatment, at all, but it is rife in these circumstances. Not just show-jumping either. Poor horses.

you certainly know Italian standards :) Where was the yard?

Unfortunately not surprised :(
A low key toss pot of a Eventer who used to have a yard in my village raps his horses. Saw him doing it once as his yard looks out onto the local park, couldn't believe my eyes. I spoke to my instructor about it (he's an ex-international Eventer) who said that no-one on the circuit likes this guy and he would be more than happy to have a word ;)

Barstewards !

Reggio Emilia, in Emilia Romagna Northen Italy. Luckily I was on a yard run by a BHS trained instructor!

I worked for a while in Parma doing sj's. I worked for 3 years in an eventing yard near Turin and got to know most of the 'important' eventers and trainers. Riding on teams here depends more on who you know and how much your horse cost than your riding ability :(

Okay please excuse the weird question.. how do you pronounce this, i know someone who says 'raping' i though it was like 'wrapping' which one lol? (sorry! :p)

Don't I know it! I worked with kids on the lower level s/j and eventing circuits (luckily bar one or two, ours were great kids!) and if anything went wrong the parent's were always there saying it was the horse's fault or the trainer's, never the riders oddly enough! :(

CobbyHoofs - I've always heard it said as wrapping"

I'd have heard this as 'bashing' never rapping. I think if they want to do it they will, no ranting or raving is going to stop the big boys doing this. I can almost guarantee there will be more than a few big names in Britain that do this too!!
