Nero appears to be footy again, this time resting the other hind more often and unwilling to cross over and is apprehensive whilst walking. He had an abscess in the off hind a few weeks back and I'm wondering if this is another one brewing, his hooves are soft anyway which I believe is due to the reason below.
The thing is where they are kept, it is reasonably soggy ground, there are dry parts but the land doesn't seem to drain off properly which I think is having a huge impact on their hooves, as you can imagine. They have a shelter which they aren't that interested in and plenty of grazing but I'm wondering if I can find a reason behind this footiness and that it's due to the ground.
What do you think? Just seems like It's another hold up and I'm blaming the flipping ground again.

How gutting, my farrier has said that he has seen a lot of abscesses and laminitis this year because of the weather :( thing is you can't change the weather, just hope you have a good relationship with your farrier :o

Yeah he's pretty good fortunately LJR, I can't say whether it is or not yet. No pulse and no heat but he's definitely short behind and resting that one. I'm hoping it will be as simple as the other if it is. If not I'm going with foot tenderness due to bruising and because they are ridiculously soft.
I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to reduce the chances of another one forming. What I really want to do is still boots on him!

He was certainly more lame and footy today and he's now poulticed again, the other hoof this time...Any ideas on preventing another one from forming? I have got him on formula 4 feet (he started just after the first abscess formed) and I am starting to put keratex hoof hardener on the others however he is reluctant to pick any other hooves up, so I'm not pressing this at the moment.
I think this one has formed as a result of a bruise left from picking up a rather large and sharp hoof last week. It's just an educated guess so I'll be interested to see if the abscess forms/ bursts in the same place.
I just so feel so bad for him, it's obviously painful. Wish me luck again.
