my sj may have to have nerve blocking done and maybe scan or X-rays of his leg , pulled up lame last week at a show , no heat or swelling but pain when check and suspensary ligament were damaged , was 5/10 lame in trot and lame in walk and
Crippled on a circle , also pointing and not wanting to weight bear at all , box rested and on bute , off
Bute yesterday and today , vets have discussed if no improvement then to
Work him
Up ,
Any idea on cost ? X

Expect it varies massively from one vet to another and depending on how many X-ray plates they use but when we had our problems a few months ago the block was done on one visit and the X-rays & scan the next.
In total it came to around £1000 but my vet is definitely not one of the cheapest.

Mine was similar to SS, with xrays & blocks done on separate occasions. No scan though & 11 plates, lots of vet time too @ big bucks per hour! Cost about £1000. Good luck!

my vet nerve blocked my old horse, he done one lot in his fetlock which the horse decided he didnt particuarly like and even though he wa still lame, the vet decided it was puss in his foot. poulticed and treated, got farrier out...nothing. after 2 months the vet still said puss. took him for a second opinion and turned out my poor boy had injured his stifle joint which box rest had made worse due to stiffness. new vet nerve blooked stifle straight away so saved money by not starting at the bottom. had x rays and scans done and he it turns out it was the ligaments in the joint that had streched. due to his age he was retiered. made me angry though that first vet didnt recognise it even with the swelling! admittedly i didnt think much of the swelling but i havent trained or claim to be a vet!

anyhoo pricewise, it only cost me £369 as we took him in to the surgery and he only had the one set of nerve blocks plus scanning/x rays done on same day.

My mare had to have a nerve block and X-ray recently (what as thought to be laminitis turned out to be laminitis plus a HUGE abscess). Two vets came out and did it at my home, were there over an hour, and that part of the treatment was about £300. But maybe a foot comes a lot cheaper than elsewhere? Don't know!
