Nerve Blocks

Hello,

just wondered if anyone was able to offer any advice.

Our Shetland came in from the field yesterday hopping lame on his right fore - apparently he had been seen playing about in the field the night before, looked to have caught himself/pulled something -he was apparently lame for a few strides but was then ok.

Anyway, we stabled him over night to see if there was any improvement and called the vet today as he was still lame.

The vet is as stumped as we are, he nerve blocked him at the fetlock joint but that has had no affect - he was just as lame.

Vet has given him a bute overnight and is coming back tomorrow.

the main problem is there is no heat, no swelling, no obvious cause for him to be lame, but he moved like his leg doesn't work rather than moving like it hurts him if that makes sense?

The vet picked up his opposite leg to see if he would stand on the affected leg and he did that without any problems.

I wondered if anyone had seen anything like this before? I have never seen a horse this lame without either an obvious cause or the horse appearing to be in a lot of pain.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance!

Hello,

Just bumping this in case anyone has any ideas.

Pony is still lame, he's been x-rayed, the vet says is a congenital malformation of the joint surface...possibly, they're (two local vets and a Newmarket specialist) not sure.

Has anyone ever come across anything like this and actually had the horse come sound.

He not really much better than he was nearly three months ago, he's not any worse either!

The vets can't really offer much further advice - he's on a qtr sachet of Danilon twice a day but it's doesn't make any difference, we're seriously starting to consider pts if the vets can't give us anything more concrete as a solution or even a real treatment plan.

He's my nieces pony though so don't want to pts unless we absolutely have - I'm not sure how you go about telling a four year old something like that - tonight she said she just wanted to see him run again :(
