nerve cutting for high ringbone

Does anyone have experience of this? I don't know whether to put a much loved twenty year old pony through it as a way to solve lameness

Mine has bilateral high ringbone (He's 15 now) but wouldnt be an option for me either.

I wouldn't do this to horse, it was one of the options given to us by the vet for our old mare.
