I had a nasty riding accident 2 weeks ago.
Came off my mare on concrete palm of my right hand first.
Went to hospital. They thought I had broken my whole arm. No just broken my elbow. They have not cast it as keeping the whole arm can create other problems. Anyway started physio on the rest of my arm today and the physio thinks I have nerve damage.
It's in my neck and down my shoulder and worst is my finger's. I cannot feel my finger tips properly

they don't reacon i will be able to either. its a very odd sensation. its my right hand and i'm left handed so not so bad.

They don't know whats going to happen with my neck and shoulder but she hopes they get better with time and physio

Feeling a bit crap atm as can't drive, ride or help out at the yard

if its any consolation i'm much the same atm!!!
i fell off when team chasing at the start of april (horse was being a complete fool!!) and I landed on the point of my elbow and smacked my head.

Apart from a bit of a headache i felt ok, and got back on, and got halfway round the course before i realised i had no strength or feeling in my right hand. Pulled up and retired.

Went to a&e the next day had x-rays and ultrasound etc, and they decided it was just badly bruised, and referred my back to my gp 6 wks later.

GP decided that it was Ulna Nerve damage, and gave me anti-inflammatories for 2wks and told me not to ride for 6wks.

6 wks came and went with no change, and even now the hand is still wierd - i have altered sensation in the little finger and the one next to it, holding a hot mug of tea actually hurts, and holding the reins i cant tell whether the contact is even or if it is but i can't feel it!

nerves are notoriously slow to heal, and i was told it could be a year before we really know how well they will heal!!

i started driving 3 months after the accident, and started riding again when the doc gave me anti-inflammatories.

Nasty. My last ned bucked me off and I landed on my face and was zoomed off to hospital on a spinal board with a suspected broken neck. Thank god I'd just pinched my spinal cord hard but I still have altered sensation in my left hand. All the time, it feels as if I am crushing a Weetabix in it! Weird or what! Dr says it will probably be there for ever. Hope your baddie arm gets better soon - I'd be homicidal if I couldn't drive lol!
