my daughters pony had vet out yesterday she came in from field looking wobbly and lame called vet as she wasnt passing any droppings and was clearly in distress. vet gave her a sweep(if thats what you call it) and removed what he could reach. vet was back today as she still hadnt passed anything and did same again he said he thinks that the blockage could have been pressing on her nerves hence the wobbly legs, been told to give her 4 small feeds a day and a handfull of hayledge and call him in morning to see if he needs to come back, has anyone else ever had this with there horse and how long before her legs get better shes really worrying me now xxx

I have to go out so can't wait for your reply, so sorry for worrying you (hopefully unnecessarily) but the main symptom my pony had when he had grass sickness was he was strange on his legs, kind of dragging his hind legs and he couldn't eat or drink hence nothing was coming out the other end. He had a nasal discharge and the vet diagnosed a dental abscess

Dung pressing on a nerve doesn't sound very likely to me I have to say.

no nasal discharge shes eating a bucket feed 3 times a day but its just not coming out the other end her urine is normal and vet took abdoman fluid and said it was normal, her pulse was fast yesterday but was steadier today xx

I would have expected not to feed the pony, except for bran mash, until she had passed droppings on her own and to give a liquid paraffin drench to help the 'blockage' on its way. I have never heard of the treatment that your vet prescribed.

i asked vet about grass sickness and he said it wasnt that will ask him again tomorrow as the legs are really worrying me i be sleeping down there soon lol x
