Well Rescue Remedy is amazing!

OK so here goes, felt much calmer and kept telling myself that it was supposed to be fun and it didn't matter if we came last but I wanted to try and get 60%+ in both tests.
She warmed up beautifully in a very busy warm-up and went in to the indoor school no problem had a bit of a look a the top corner but it was her first time in there and she was settled and did a really lovely test (P17). She just struggled with the surface in there as it was quite deep and wet in places.
Really pleased with 65% and 4th place. It was a very big class and there was some stiff competition.
Then next was (P16) in the International arena. Bit looky going up the walk-way and OH had to give me a lead in. Now most normal horses spook at the flags, the judges box or the photographer - Not my Diva. Oh no, she spooked at the C end and what I think was the smallest black bag I her ever seen!!!

Stayed really positive, gave her a wallop, jammed my leg on and using a lot of seat, got her round and she did a nice test. Not as fluid as the first one but no major hiccups. By the end her halo was back in place. We got 61.7% so not bad considering she was a little spooky.
Really pleased, think OH is relieved too as this neurotic female stuff must be hard going on him. We had a long chat and basically I think the problem was that I see him ride everyday and get frustrated because I am a mere mortal who rides for fun and I am never going to be able to replicate what he can do! So the upshot is I am going to be less hard on myself and focus on being positive - whatever happens!!!
Looking forward to Cobham on Sunday, will keep you all posted and will be back if I wobble again.
Thank you to everone - you all made me feel much better.

Well done to you.... ahh... normally is something lurking in the cupboard as to why you panick/get nervous! Glad you see your cause of it.. now you can attack that.. positive thinking.. ok even in your post you say "I am never going to able to replicate what he can do"... why not? Do you want to or do you want to just have fun? If you want to just have fun then think because I want to have fun I am going to have fun.. ie. who cares where I come, BUT if you want to ride as well, hey why cant you????!!! Think about what you want to get out of it... but really well done for today!! Food for thought I hope!!

Ultimately yes I do - I harbour a dream of wearing top hat and tails on her.
But for this year I am going to lay down the foundations for the future - build on confidence and harmony and then who knows?
OH said I rode the best he has seen me ride in a competition - this is real progress as in the past I tend to fall apart. So I am quietly determined

It sounds like you rode really positively so well done you. I also get very nervous competing so I can sympathise - have also gone the Rescue Remedy route and it is helping - as is making myself get out and compete more.
Any photos of the comp?

Well done indeed for conquering your demons. I too get in a paddy and can sympathise with how comparing yourself to your OH would give problems (it would give me probs to be in the same collecting ring as him, I've seen the photos..very professional). I try to set myself targets for me - as you did with the % - not a comparison to what someone else might get. My current target is to better 44% so you are doing very well against my parameters !! (either a witchy judge or a cross eyed scorer, I was so cross I didn't check the maths and should have). Well done again.

congrats, sounds like a very positive day

I know what you mean though about putting pressure on yourself to achieve results like your OH. When I was working for Leslie I had possibly my worst ever season, and I think it was because of seeing him ride every day and the results that he would get... you just take that as the norm and expect the same from yourself. Which just isn't really possible when you're a one-horse rider... as soon as I came back home and competed 'for fun' again I saw a massive improvement. Just enjoy it!
