I'm off to the Trailblazer Dressage finals next week.

I never really get nervous when I compete but already I can't sleep and am fretting.

Its a 3-4 hour drive to Stoneleigh for me and this is the furthest I have ever travelled a horse, its also the first time I have ever ridden at such a huge venue and the first time I have ever stayed away.

The horse is on loan to me which is making me more nervous with the responsibilty of someone elses horse.

I have made lists of what I need to take but am still worried that i'll forget something.

I went to a comp last week and forget the test and messed up and am now worried that I will do this again.

I really hate feeling like this its so not like me and its a week away yet, i'll be a wreck on the day. I have tried rescue remedy but that hasn't helped - i think I need something stronger!!!!

So is anyone going?

And has anyone got any tips on how to get through the next week?

Im going for the show jumping, and i have been feeling nerves too, mainly worried for the horse as she has never stayed away from home.

PMA (positive mental attitude) You must go thinking how brilliant you and your horse are to have qualified for this Championship. There are a lot of people who failed to qualify so now you know you are brilliant.
Good luck.
Enjoy.

id try not to think of it quite so much and TalaveraII seems to have hit the nail on the head with GIN!!!
you will be ok once you got there and i'd hazzard a bet that you forgot the test the other week because you were worrying about the finals!!! take a deep breath and RELAX easy for me to say i know but it does work honest x

I went a couple of years ago with my pony, bit like you it was the first time i'd stayed away and definitely the biggest competition i'd ever done. I was rather nerve when i saw how good everyone looked but eventually excitement took over and i just enjoyed it.

You've qualified so you deserve to be there, don't put any pressure on yourself and just have fun, regardless of what happens it's all good experience! Hope you have a good time, i absolutely loved it x

i'm going for the dressage too

nerves have not kicked in yet, never stopped over night before, neither as horsey, it will be the biggest thing we've ever done, eeeek. Looking forward to it though. I'm doing novice and elementary, you?
Good luck

very nervous but I am looking forward to it.
I'm just doing the novice. I find it hard remembering 1 test let alone 4!!!!

Sebastian (the dun in the pic) is going with my trainer in the novice and elementary. My best advice is to make lists and tick things off before you go, once they are on the lorry. Get a friend to check your list if you are worried you haven't remembered anything. When you get there make sure you do any arena walks to calm nerves. I would also do a lot of mental visualisation of riding the test, how it feels, imagining perfect transitions etc. Doing the test on foot round the kitchen has also been known to help. Plus I would make myself smile down the centre line (even though it may look grim) and try to remember to breathe deeply and slowly especially just before you go in and are riding round the arena. If you just focus on giving your horse the best ride you can and nothing else, it should do the trick. Good luck to you and hope you enjoy it.
