Anyone got any ideas on how to conquer your nerves.

I can ride but feel really sick before i ride and think i cant do it, and then a load of what if's come into my mind - What if i fall off - What if it bolts - what if i cant control it....

Mad i know but its all mind over matter and i struggle with it. I am a very nervous person naturally who is known to be sick at the drop of a hat.

My horse is currently on the sick!!! with foot problems so havent had opportunity to ride really for months, have ridden a friends horse fine, when it was sprung on me and i just got on and did it!!! Sounds totally nuts i know, but hopefully someone else out there shares my nerves or at least has a cure for them

Waiting in anticipation

If anyone knows - please tell me too.

I'm getting better slowly, through a good instructor and a fab mate who chucks me on random ponies.

A lot of people on here have recommend TFT but don't know that much about it

Have you tried TFT? It might help

A few people on here used it, and it has helped them A LOT!

whiskey?? works for me. Alternatively a friend of mine has got so terrified she has started hypnotherapy, and I have to admit it does seem to be having an impact as she is getting more confident on board, although still very nervous she doesn't have a total panic and get off if the horse does something unexpected. In the past the smallest of jogs was enough to unnerve her.

TFT will deffo help. My friends daughter comes and rides Touchy and she is very nervous, so bad that I really admire her because she actually has to talk herself into getting on. TFT has helped her. She is so brave to carry on. I might add that Touchy is an absolute angel, very steady!

I tried TFT....£150 later and after alot of humming and tapping did now't for me,but, work on some...I tried Equimins Calming capsules and the fluid that you put on the back of neck, forehead and top of hands, and took about 6 capsules and they worked....Em,could be me believing they work who knows, but, they do something even my friends noticed how chilled I was....worth a try,and they send them next day post!!!

know just how you feel, my last horse used to attack me on a daily basis and I'd almost be sick at the thought of going to the field after he grabbed my arm and shook me on one occasion.
in the end i tried to think of it like a funny cartoon and remain slightly detached, not sure how this would help riding-wise as you really need to engage?
prob just try to chuckle when you imagine yourself out of control (thelwell style) or think of the horse as much smaller
good luck

Thought Field Therapy - check out Jo Coopers website. It is definitely worth a look and might help. I use rescue remedy myself - a couple of squirts and I feel much more positive.

Been there when my mare was off work for 9 months. Make yourself a new year resolution that you will tack up and ride every day for 5 minutes. And, remember, you only have to walk - go at your pace and bore yourself silly until you want to do a little more.

I'm not as bad as you but I suffer from bad nerves before competing - sometimes to the point where I can't feel my legs and feel sick. There is absolutely no reason for it - there is no pressure on me and usually we do quite well. I don't jump at all at the moment after a fall earlier on this year where I broke my collar bone - I've just had no desire to do so. I am now starting to feel as if I'd like to have a go though! I'm off to try a horse next Tuesday - just my yard owner's to ride a couple of days a week and do a bit of competing on but I am already starting to feel a bit shaky! I don't like being watched riding other people's horses - I can ride my own fine but I ride him all the time and now what to press. I think riding another horse will actually do me good but I know I will need time to get used to it!
You just need to make sure you keep calm - I use something like Rescue Remedy. Not sure if it works, but at least it might have a little effect psychologically! Invest in some good lessons with a decent, patient instructor that will understand and sympathise with your issues. Good luck

Your all really supportive!!!!

My horse is actually sound!!!

I sit here now thinking - right i am going to get on him and have a walk and trot - then when the time comes i feel sick - now if i got to yard and was tacked up and someone said come on up we go - i wouldnt think twice, i would get on and do it!!!!

AAARRRGGGHHHH could scream... going to ride this weekend with a very very good friend of mine... will let you all know...

BTW where do i get Rescue remedy from - just in case lol
