Ive been riding for just over a year now and like any other rider have good and bad and very bad lessons.lol
I feel that i am going backwards instead of getting better, i have become very anxious when riding especially when jumping. I dont want to give up cause i really want to improve.
I have a very very good instructor who always reasures me and makes sure i get back on after falling lol!!!
Anyone else ever feel like this? Will i get over this fobia????

the way i think works to beat this sort of thing is to get on a trustworthy horse that you know does well and tries hard, then d something you have never done before, but the horse has, ignore nerves, and when you do this and it goes well, you realise you can do it and find other things easy, but the thing is, if things dont go well, then that might be a downer!!

which is why you need the trusty horse!i started riding in the summer and the most nervewracking thing i have done is go to a show, unfortunately not on my horse as she had an injury, but i was so nervous! it went really well an di cant wait to go competeing in late spring!!

Most people have a time in their riding life where their confidence is low for whatever reason, its completely natural!

Having a sympathetic instructor really helps and it sounds like you have that.

The trick to getting confidence is not riding good horses as someone suggested - it is a riding many different ones, and riding as regularly as possible - my friend Pablo says 8 a day!

As GTs says, try and ride all different types of horses. Also, remember to relax and breath - if your nervous and edgy, the horse will pick that up, and thats where it could go wrong. x

i been throw the same with helga before i buy helga she throw me off when i was gettin on her (still don`t know why i still got her lol no only messing ) and it take me still last year (2yrs) to be 100% confident get on her i was ok once on and riding she could buck, bronk or ear and i would be ok it was just gettin on her something so small which knowed be back sooo much.

You nervous ?? never lol .... You know me .. I think its not being patient amanda lol , its been bloody well stubborn :P

You will get there , your just too darn hard onyourself ...

Other members on HHO she is TOO DAMN HARD ON HERSELF !!!

We are having a lesson tomorrow afternoon , so Im gona get a little clip of it(that will make her even more nervous lol , but then again she might relax abit :P )
She will then see how bad I am on tuesday when we both go for a jumping lesson (bare in mind I havent jumped in 3 years or so, so she will see Im not sooo perfect lol .

Amanda is a star even though she dont see it herself and think she just needs abit of a pick up , so here it is

I have had ups and downs with my confidence, but I find the more I ride the more confident I get. I have not ridden for a while because I bought an unbacked youngster in December I when I do ride I am not as confident as I was in the summer when I rode every day.

The BEST jumping tip I have had is breathe out as you go over the jump. Really exagerate it through your mouth and it will help your whole body relax. Give it a try!! Also sounds silly but remember to breathe when tense in general really hleps. Good luck and keep on going!
