Some may recall my issues this time last year... My KWPN mare who had been scanned infoal etc had been progressing well.... had mill etc but it turned out she had lost it at some stage and carried on with a phantom...
well.... she is due in July, to a different stallion this time and i am starting to really get stressed out again!
my mum passed a comment the other day that she didnt look pregnant compared to my other who is due in August (however, she is a pony mare infoal to a small horse so i guess, should maybe be showing sooner etc). i brushed off the comment and didnt think any more of it,
well today, i have been trying to sort the files on my laptop and came across her photos from this time last year..... she is at about the same size etc! So now i am starting to feel queezy!

I had her scanned at just over 100 days, and we saw a lovely little foal in there. I have since spoke to the vets a couple of months ago and they said if i was worried do a blood test = but i am only worried due to me, not anything to do with my mare so thought it would be silly...
i have bought a wee foal test and think i am going to have to do it to hopefully reassure me that alls well - or to stop me being on a needless foal watch!

my mare also is rather lame at the moment and has been approaching 6 weeks now, i had the vet and she ruled out pretty much everything in her leg and we believe its her shoulder, however as i am obviously not riding her etc the vet says there is no rush to look further into the lameness and that time is a great healer - i agree with time but i do worry about her expanding belly and weight on it! (vet has taken her off the bute etc for it)

i dont really know why i have posted, maybe it just helps to 'talk' to others into breeding rather than my not a clue hubby, liveries who havent bred etc!

i am NOT experienced at breeding in any way shape or form BUT my mare was hardly showing with 2 months to go and she has 1 month to go and is suddenly huge!!

Thanks for the reply, Jazz looks lovely :) who is she infoal to?

My other mare thats due in August, her 1st foal (2008) she really looked very unpregnant, the lady whos stallion was used was convinved she wasnt infoal and started to make arrangements for my mare to return to the stallion.

My KWPN though, well, last year, she had so many fooled, including my vets who said give her another 4 weeks as she was due at the 340 days. She had the belly, milk etc, but i'm just :-/ as the photos i stumbled across, she was about the same as she is progessing with this one. I think once you've had a bad experience (but in many terms not 'bad' as compared to some others experiences with breeding) it makes you over think and panic things.

I really want to hold off using the urine test but i think it'll be used this weekend, assuming she will let me get a sample etc.

I went through exactly the same thing with my mare two years ago, she had a full blown phantom pregnancy and we were even on foal watch before finding out she was empty.

She was covered again and I was really paranoid....to the point of being obsessive... about whether she was in foal or not. She had a couple of additional scans prior to 100days and then I had her bloodtested at around 6 months. The results were back within a few days and almost completely put my mind at rest....... she had a filly on her due date last year!

Everyone thought I was bonkers having her bloodtested.....but when youve spent a small fortune and nearly two years of stud/vets fees, i think its worth it! I did get told though that the wee tests could give false readings, hence opting for the blood.

Good Luck :-)

PS. My mare didnt look in foal the second time, until the week before!

I know the feeling well!! Im in your position but add to that mix a mare that is so horny she shows heats on and off throughout pregnancy!! Now thats stress!

I did a thread in the breeding section the other day about mares hiding pregnancy well. Some good replies and pics. Im sure she will be fine, my mares hiding well, similar to ladyrascase, im just waiting for the second pic to happen!
