Sorry if this is slightly repetitive after my post about snaffles!

I am, however, considering getting Ellie a new bit. She's currently in an eggbutt French Link, but I'm not 100% happy with it - nothing wrong, she isnt evasive and doesnt lean...but she doesnt work as well in it as she does either in her double bridle, or when I tried her just in the bradoon. So I think I am going to try a loose ring, maybe with a lozenge to lessen the nutcracker effect.

What are people's experiences with NS bits? All my tack has brass/gold fittings, so I am looking for a gold coloured bit - and of course, Korsteel is the most obvious option. But I have heard some good things about Neue Schule, and have found this bit:

Any experiences? Are they worth the money? I would rather spend £20 extra to get something that is spot on, so dont mind the fact that they are a bit more expensive than Korsteel

We use a neue schule universal with lozenge and a NS snaffle with our pony and he goes very well in them. He seems to really like the taste of the metal.

We have the universal for fast work and Toto goes well in it , after reading your post about snaffle's I was thinking of trying a loose ring Neue Schule too ! (he is in a Myler hanging cheek at the mo).
I got the universal off Ebay , much cheaper than they are to buy new

I tried the 3 ring lozenge one last night my boy didnt like it. I think its each horses preference about what they like, best thing to do is try. There is a place called bit world that lets you hire bits for a month to try.

Maggie the mare i share is in a universal for jumping and x country and in the verdiband loose ring snaffle for flat. Works really nicely in both, i have only recently changed them over from a french link for flat and a dutch gag for sj- really pleased that i did and she seems to really like the metal (salox gold i believe!) and is alot happier in accepting the bit.
She is alot less fussy in her mouth and accepts the contact alot quicker.

Surrey equestrian seem to have all the bits in stock and are quite cheap- ebay is good to :-)

Very very good bits. I must stress though they aren't the same as any old lozenge bit as some other liveries at my place are convinced.

Holz is much more accepting of the bit and much easier to stop.

I use the tranz-lozenge on my horse and he is very comfy and responsive. He has a big tongue and fleshy lips so I wanted a bit that would sit well in his mouth.

i used to use a hanging cheek myler comfort snaffle and thought she went ok in it- until I tried the NS starter bit (loose ring (9008) - completely different horse, much more forward and happier in the contact. I love my bit! I think it was the combination of warmer metal, loose ring & shape. will be ringing heather soon as well for excellent advice on what weymouth/bridoon to try on her.
Others have tried my bit and have also had very good responses to it.

Thanks everyone for your replies

Next question (because I have only ever had 'cheap' bits

)- what are your opinions regarding Neue Schule versus Sprenger? I know Sprenger are even more expensive, and a friend of mine has just told me that they are 'simply the best'. To those who have used both, would you agree?

I have never tried a NS bit but have two Sprenger KK Ultras for mine. One is a loose ring french snaffle and the other is a baucher. They both go brilliantly in them and are happy with them - always mouthing them so you have to watch out for green foam!! I have inherited a NS loose ring french snaffle that I am going to try on my boy - if he likes it as much it will go on his other bridle so I don't have to keep swapping bits.
