Looking to upgrade the bit I use, which is an eBay bought unbranded Eggbutt snaffle with a losenge.

I’ve been looking at the neue schule at around £100, but then had a feel of the shires version which seemed of equal quality.

does anyone here have a brand preference, and are the high end brand - neue schule, sprenger etc. worth the extra price tag?

My horse went very well in a loose ring NS trans lozenge. It is a beautifully balanced bit. I would say worth the money. They are less than £100 new I think.

Could you get a secondhand one?

I LOVE neue schule bits and I must say iv bought the 'copy' or similar versions and honestly they just don't compare. They hold there value really well too :)

I think the high end brands are worth the money. Haven't tried NS, but have always had my horses in different Sprenger bits. Current one is in a RS dynamic loose ring single joint snaffle.

Compared to cheaper bits the metal blend used is better and the high end brands usually have more well designed, ergonomic design.

my mare came with her sprenger bit (thank god🥲💰) as recommended by a bit specialist as she doesn’t like metal bits, and i have to say it’s far better than cheaper versions i’ve used!

it’s the straight one, and i’d like to try her in a jointed one or one with cheeks to give her a bit more stability as she’s a wiggly worm, but i’m very reluctant to fork out for one she won’t be in for long🤣 also thinking along the lines off “if it ain’t broke…” because we don’t have any issues with the bit itself, it’s the rest of her wiggly body lol.

as much as the cost made me very grateful she arrived with the bit and i didn’t need to buy a new one, i definitely would only use higher end brands for “rubber” bits. all the cheaper ones i’ve ever used or even felt feel just that, cheap and flimsy.
