Please can anyone explain the difference to me between a standard hanging cheek and a Neue Schule hanging cheek.

My horse does go well in his hanging cheek but he is quite strong/can lean sometimes and has a good attempt at trying to get his tongue over the bit. As he goes well in this bit, I'm just looking for something that might help with the tongue problem (I think he has quite a fat tongue so not sure if that's contributing to the problem :D)

I need something that is dressage legal too.

Is your current hanging cheek single jointed? I'm presuming you are looking at a trans lozenge NS bit. I tend to find that strong horses I've ridden overbend in a hanging cheek of any sort. Perhaps check out the NS website to see how the mouthpiece works. Remember if you do go for the NS they do tend to measure up on the small side so go for one 1/4" larger than usual.

I've just bought a NS hanging cheek with tranz-angled lozenge (gone from a single jointed hanging cheek).

Only ridden in it a few times but so far I've found she tends to lean on it less (she is only strong in canter and jumping work - the rest of the time I can stop her easily/ make transitions with my seat). I had a lesson on Sat and my instructor said it was the best canter work she has seen us do. She worked in a good outline and wasn't strong at all.

My mare has a fleshy mouth so I went for the thinner mouth piece. Seems to be working well for us so far.
