my horse goes very well in hs ported kimblewick, but i want a snaffle for dressage and schooling. He is connie x TB - fat tongue

EX-driving horse - head high.

the best ive tried (have tried TONS!) is a shires training bit, loosering with lozenge.. in the copper/gold stuff. Anyway, he is still fussy and resistant to softening in this, and can be quite fussyalthough better than anything else.

i thouht pehraps a neue schule would be the answer and having spoken to heather, i ordered a team up... but it doesnt look ANY different in the angle/lozenge to my cheapo shires? ! Apart from it seems a nicer metal and is lighter.. i know this is the bit they recommend for fussy horses.. but obviously once ive tried it out i cant return it. Im wondering will the difference in material/weight & the fact its a bit narrower really make that much difference?
or; should I have gone for the tranz angled lozenge that sits on the tongue flat?

the salox warms up much quicker than other metals - test it out by holding it in your hand - I was amazed!! My youngster is in a Neue Schule training bit, and is much happier than in a similar shape brass alloy bit. Can you not use a bit bank to try out bits to find one that suits your horse?

thanks

To be totally fair to NS, i just spoke to Heather again was honest with her about the similarities of the 2 bits.. she still thinks the salox material and thinner mouthpiece may b enough to settle him down, but has offered to put me in touch with a bit bank if it doesnt and has asked me to let her know how he goes. She also explained that the tranz sit more flat ont he tongue and gives more tongue pressure, so given my horse goes so well in a ported bit - not the best choice.

Not a NS I know but the myler comfort low port snaffle is very simalar to the mouthpice on a kimblewick but I am not sure if they are dresage legal or not.
