Does anyone use either the Tactio or the Turtle Top and if so what cheek do you use? I've spoken to NS a few times for bitting advise and they recommened the Turtle Tactio Eggbutt in Medium. I found one second hand sold as Medium and lately I'e been thinking latley it just doesn't fit or sit right but turns out its a large as I measured it against my friends medium! I also rode in her turtle top eggbut and he seemed to like it. Lately in the tactio he's been playing with the bit a lot.

before I go and search for a tactio second hand in a medium (they are just so expensive new!) just wondered how other people get on with these?

I have a turtle top with loose rings. It was for a young just backed 4yo with a fairly small mouth. He was originally in a myler type bit which he was playing with and his head carriage was unsteady. The turtle top did improve things and I was happy with it but he has a neck problem so is retired now. I used the bit on another 4yo but it didn't suit him and that horse has a bit with fulmer cheeks now. I will try him back in the turtle top when he's a bit further on with his schooling. I do like it but as you say they are expensive to try out if your horse doesn't get on with it.

I've got a turtle top eggbut which was recommended by a bit fitter. I'm not sure my mare goes much better in it than the verbindend that she had before.

I have a turtle top with loose rings. My horse goes better in it that he previously did in the eggbut snaffle I inherited. He doesn't lean and is light as you like. He has a wide mouth (tbf everything about him is big) and I found the sizing difficult to judge so bought one that's too small to begin with.

Yes they are great! We had a NS verbindend on mine, I got it from another livery. He seemed to go ok in it but he was very active with with his mouth (opening chewing etc). I felt he needed a bit more help with steering (ex racer so he’s still learning) so I’ve just bought a NS turtle top Hunter D ring bit and it’s fab. He’s much happier and still in this bit and I feel he understands the rein aids much more now. No opening or chewing on the bit and seems to be leaning a lot less…only used it a couple of times so far though. https://nsbits.com/products/mouthpiece/turtle-top/turtle-top-hunter-d-ring

They are really lovely bits! You can always hire from the bit bank? Can try it for 30 days etc

My friend tried one for her cob. It would stick to the roof of the mouth when the reins where taken up. Horse hated that.

Depends on the palate of the horse and thickness of tongue though, if he has a thick tongue or low palate then yes could be uncomfortable I suppose.

I was considering the D ring rather than the egg but too! I use to use a loose ring Turtle Top on my TB I had and he always went so well in it!

I use a full cheek turtle top on my horse.
He started wearing it at 4 years old, in preference to a trans angled lozenge. He is still wearing it now at age 10 and competing at medium. He probably doesn't need the full cheeks now but he goes so well in it why change?

I have one with D rings at the moment.
We graduated from full cheeks as a youngster

The Large is truly enormous and very fat too, I find the sizing on them a bit odd!
