Neue Schule Verbindend Bits... Fake ??

I recently bought a Neue Schule Verbindend bit, the problem I have is that although it seems to be the right shape etc, it doesn't have a NS stamp on it or any stamp at all.
Is it a fake ?
Its had very little use from previous owner and I havn't used it at all yet.
So, for those with a genuine NS Verbindend bit, could you please tell me if it has anything stamped on it?

A NS would generally be stamped, with an arrow on the end at a minimum

If there are no markings at all and the lozenge is straight and not angled, then chances are its one of our tongue savers

Not a "fake", but not a NS either
 
Im very warry of NS bits as i recently had a horse misbehaving very badly, gave him a pull to get his head up, and the bit broke clean in the middle.... I was very lucky to get away with it.
 
All mine have the arrow barring one that I've just bought. It was from a tack shop (not ebay!) by mail order but it doesn't look quite right - it's very bright and shiny. I suspect it's not a genuine one.
 
The one in question has an arrow type thing on the end of the bit, by the bit ring on one side. It does not have a NS stamped on it.
I questioned it from the person who sold it to me and she says that it is an older model that was not stamped with NS.

My first one (about 5 years old) I don't think has NS stamped on it, or it has NS but not Salox stamped on it. Came direct from NS.

Newer ones started VERY shiney but toned down quickly.
 
Your bit is genuine

My NS verbindend only has an arrow and no other markings, and I bought it direct, so know exactly where it came from

The other thing to check and totally set your mind at rest - hold the bit in front of you as it would sit in horses mouth and you should see the lozenge slopes downwards a little (arrow on the right

If it was a tongue saver, it wouldn't have the arrow and the lozenge is straight - no one else makes bits like this apart from Cotswoldsport and NS (Bombers could make one, but it would be blue!)

I don't want to ride my five year old in a bit that is a copy.
I have heard really good things about the NS and would be really mad
if someone has sold me a below standard copy,
plus I don't want to be ripped off !!

this isn't the first time i've heard this, which is why i won't use NS bits for any fast work or jumping.
in fact the only NS bits i have are my double bridle bits, and they are definitely stamped, i checked earlier. i bought them direct from NS so they'd better be genuine!

There is only TWO companies with these moulds, and yours is a NS verbindend - you can even see that the lozenge is angled

There is NO SUCH THING AS A FAKE VERBINDEND

Also I'm offended that you would possibly classify our bit range range as "below standard copy" - well if you are so darn picky why not buy new and stop being so tight?

Its the only bit my naughtypony likes so he odes everything in it, XC etc. :confused: Mine is deffo a real one as it were. Are they not safe? and what are the alternatives then?

i don't know, i'm only going on what i have heard on here (first hand in both cases). if your horse loves it, stick with it, obv. i know a lot of people swear by them. my NS double bridle bits are lovely, they're about 13 years old and as new, can't fault that.
 
I also know first hand of a NS bit breaking. I have used them before - the demi anky one and liked it. Any others I'd stick with Sprenger. I'm pretty sure NS are copies of Sprenger anyway. However, Sprenger don't make a lozenge rotated like the verbindend.
I expect I'll be shot down for that comment but the quality of Sprenger is far superior.

I have seen a verbindend. The lozenge isn't angled as much as a KK (or NS tranz) and the mouthpiece itself is curved. Looking at the picture it does look like a verbindend. I also seem to recall they are 12mm thick. I'm pretty sure it has arms like the demi anky but a lesser rotated lozenge than the tranz making it quite unique.

The old NS bits did not have NS stamped on them, just the arrow, and it was a larger arrow than the sprenger one. I know this because the one NS bit I bought was when the company first started but have since seen the newer designs in a genuine stockist (I love looking at bits - they fascinate me, and yes I'm sad!). You can buy polish from sprenger that brings their bits (and NS bits) up like new. Aurigan paste it's called.
 
Jen_Cots.... Why are you offended? Offended by me ?? I don't recall any reference to you or my asking you specifically for advice, I don't know who you are and I am certainly not tight !
I am simply asking people on the forum if they think this bit is genuine, so get off my case please.

And having hunted and dressaged a horse all winter in your double bridle bits I concur. They are lovely!!

I don't see why there can't be NS fakes around though - especially floating about on ebay. Any premium product attracts unsrupulous people to make cut price copies and sell them as the real deal. I'll take some pics of one I bought that I'm not sure about and post them tonight. It's stamped NS and Salox but has no arrow and the metal is a different colour to any of my other NS bits.
 
Have ordered a brand spanky new one as my lad seems to be happy in it !!
Its great to finally have a breakthrough rather than a breakdown ! :)
