Could anyone help me with this conundrum? My mares loose ring french link bit is a 5 1/2 inch and I was recommended to try her in a Neule Shule hanging cheek wide barrell comfort bit so I ordered the same size. She seems to like the bit but I think it is too big as although it seems to sit OK in the mouth when still (i.e. about the right amount of bit showing on either side) it seems to be slipping from side and hanging out one side once we start working. Do you think that it is too big? I think I have read somewhere that hanging cheeks need to be a bit snugger. Have you found this?
Also with regards to height in the mouth it is wrinkling the lips 1 - 1.5 times but when the contact is picked up the cheekpieces are gaping (ifyswim!). I guess therefore that it needs to go up another hole but am worried she is going to be like a cheshire cat!
Is this normal?
