Has anyone had a horse that has had a neurectomy? My mare caught her foot in a harrow 3 months ago. The wound was stitched up but she developed a bone infection which we treated with surgery. She went on the have ringbone and then a dislocated pastern due to torn ligaments. On tuesday she had her joint realigned and also had a neurectomy for the ringbone pain. Its been a real nightmare for her. She seems settled now. Her leg is in cast for five weeks. She has been now using her once lame leg but i would love to hear from anyone that has had a similar experience with a neurectomy.

My horse had a neurectomy in November. She sustained a fracture to her leg as the result of a suspensory ligament strain. When the bone regrew, it was pressurising a nerve and so they removed the nerve. She wasn't in a cast though, just bandaged up for a couple of weeks. Then box rest for 6 weeks and I just started gently riding here again last week. She is showing very slight lameness, but the vet is confident this is just because she's a bit stiff from being on box rest for 5 months.
