Neutered dog smelling like a bitch?

My lab is neutered (due to his OCD therefore stopping me breeding from him!). I take him shooting about twice a week where he is the only neutered dog and I find that all the other whole dogs will not leave him alone. It would seem that he smells like a bitch in heat. He is thoroughly fed up with the other dogs and now growls at them - making it look as if he is the agressive one. Has anyone else ever encountered this problem?

Interesting... my lab is not neutered - he sometimes follows other dogs and won't leave them alone (not often.)

Once was a bitch in season - so that was fair enough - I could see why he followed her... (was cross with the owner for walking a bitch in season off lead in a park, actually)

Then one dog (spaniel) was neutered but diabetic - and his owner said she often has trouble with dogs following him as aopparently he gives off an interesting smell

Then, yesterday - an older neutered spaniel dog in the park was apprently irresistable to my dog...

He doesn't try to mount them or anything - just follows them... is very embarrassing... usually he comes away from other dogs no problem - is just these few occasions...

Out of interest - when was he neutered (what age?)? I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Yep have same problem with my two, the neutered dog rehomed from years as a single dog is the boss in a lot of things and is quite a grumpy B, but my full dog is a happy little chap and gives him space most of the time, when I first got Grumpy, the full dog found him very exciting but after being told off a lot he went quiet.

But if Grumpy gets very wet the full dog gets really fruity, following him around tail up, poking him and squeaking and trying to mount him! It's really funny.

They do smell more like bitches when they have been neutered, it's something to do with them not having the hormones any more.

Thats really interesting - he was neutered about the age of 2. It is reassuring to hear other people stories on this.

I've got a jack rusell we have the same problem with, he has a heart condition and is on daily medication and has been neutered. The number of times I've sat with him held up out the way in our dog class or agaility because one of the male dogs comes to try and get at him. He is only tiny for a jack russel so it can be a complete pain if its a larger dog.
