Well yes I would. Decided after saturday that I would be better off traveling further for a more civilised venue with sensible class sizes. Brain was addled before I even jumped.

So details please on nice venues with small class sizes within 100 miles of Northampton please.

Blewbury for one.

Been on BSJA webbie but SOlihull run wednesday, arghhhhh!!!!!

I think we will be trying Weston Lawns soon. YO wants to do Patchets and Medstead, but i am sure BCA run BSJA at weekends?

Oh bummer
frown.gif
That really is just plain greed on the part of the organisers
mad.gif
I guess it's the downside to having such fantastic facilities on your doorstep though

Can't offer any advice on where else to go in your area....but how did you get on in the Disco anyway ?

THats absolutely ridculous and very annoying - especially when your horse will be stood in the cold. Not good for him.

Sounds to me like they were just trying to make as much money as possible!!

Much more civilised over here - there is defo limited numbers in classes - makes it much easier to oragnise yourself.

I don't blame them at all, they have to pay approx £18k/year in rates alone + insurance + BSJA fees etc They need to get all the money they can now before the summer season starts. Also how would you feel if you when you got there they said no more entries? I would be more upset by that than having to wait for my class. Do you not phone up before you leave home?

Feel so sorry for you and agree with all the others that Addington was being greedy!
Blewbury although not as posh and with a much smaller warm up is not a bad place to go. I go there quite often for their Trailblazers SJ.
BCA do some BSJA but not very often and Snowball only does BSJA on a Monday.
Patchetts and Keysoe do BSJA as well

Actually quite agree. Facilities at Addington dont come cheap, the new 90x90 outdoor arena cost in access of £250k! alone! thats before the rebuild of indoor school which is now 70x30 with high tech sound system, lighting and heating.

The only problem i find with the place is that you arent exactly greeted with open arms, more like treading on egg shells not to upset the staff.....

Agree with the overhead issues they face but, and its a BIG BUT. They will not accept people ringing up to find out how many entries there are. You get a very curt response if you try
frown.gif

Why they dont install an answer machine and update with entry numbers and approx class start times I just dont know. It would make a superb venue with great organisation spot on.
Would probably make their lives easier as well. tempers generally seemed to be getting a little frayed on saturday evening.

Well, I have turned up at a show to be told they weren't accepting entries as the classes were full. Agreed at the time i wasn't very happy, but i know for next year that that show is one that i need to enter in advance if i want to jump there...and i do because the facilities are great. In the old days (when i were a lad and all that.....) we always entered in advance
tongue.gif
If they state on their schedules that entries in advance are required, then people will soon get used to the idea

Sounds like they don't want anyone damaging the new paintwork

Did you ask them if you could either have your money back, or defer your entry to another day ? I have done it a few times and usually the show organisers are very reasonable about doing so
smile.gif

I'm sorry but even though I sympathise with the overheads they have, there is no need to A) have a stupid number of entries (I mean, com'on, there are only SO MANY horses that can jump in one day) B) be so snotty that you can't phone up to even get a vague idea of timings C) have the attitude that you should be grateful to be there.

I'm sure they ahve a website - why not just update that and tell people to look on there - thats what we have out here, then you can see the entries in each class.

You can't phone them - now that is ridiculous.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agree completely. If they are going to accept huge numbers per class then there should be some method of imparting that information.

I'm guessing you haven't competed at addington. I refer you to BB's post

Entries in advance is definately the way to go!!
Just like dressage, we could all have start times and know when to arrive - they could put as many as they like in each class then!!

Ahhh....like that is it

I've just checked the results on their website actually.....and they only had a maximum of 19 in the 1.10m Open.....guessing that everyone got bored of hanging around like you though
tongue.gif

The Newcomers results reads like a bit of a who's of who of the National circuit too lol!

Yeah....you would think so wouldn't you !?

Have you ever jumped the Amateur classes at Hickstead
crazy.gif
They have upto 250 in the class......and it's first come, first served at the number board
tongue.gif
Last year the class ran for about 6 hours....but at least it was 2-phase
smile.gif
The Novice Derby had 150 in it.........and it had a separate jump-off so if you went early and jumped clear, you had to come back about 4 hours later to do the JO
