I was a typical horse obsessed girl - I read Black Beauty, Flicka, Brumby books...was desperate for a pony. Parents were non-horsey and non-wealthy, so it never happened.
As a teenager I rode other people's horses, was fearless, came a few croppers, but eventually found Boys, Pubs, I got married too young, and life just took me away from horses.
Fast forward 30 years, some major life events, and at 48 I was suddenly in a position to buy a horse...on a shoestring, but I could do it. For 30 years my horse obsession had been suppressed. I got my first horse and a geyser of horsiness errupted and just kept coming. I got a second one a year later, struggled, ended up with one out on loan, difficult livery situations, but having lots of fun and huge satisfaction from my riding. Then...a few months ago, after death of father in law and inheritance of share in his house, found a local property with 3 acres. After difficult sale of our own house and father in law's house, secured the 3 acre property. We moved in 2 weeks ago. 2nd horse now back from loan and I HAVE BOTH MY BOYS AT HOME.
The house is chaotic, the kids are revolting, OH and myself are exhausted from fixing up shelves, moving boxes, unpacking and cleaning. But. I'm 54 years old and in a few short years I've gone from totally given up on any thought of getting a horse in my life to LOOKING OUT OF MY KITCHEN WINDOW AND SEEING MY TWO HORSES. The stables need roofs, the house is a state, the fields are wet. But my wildest dream has come true. I truly believe that if you want something badly enough, and long enough, you can make it happen. I walk out into my own yard each morning, and I rejoice.
I just wanted to share.......................
